Guest guest Report post Posted February 25, 2006 REPLY to Andi, Bert offered good advice about finding and reading the published works of Fagan and Bradley. After reading Fagan's monthly topics in American Astrology during the 70's and 80's, my first book was Donald A. Bradley's Solar and Lunar Returns. These were quickly followed by Cyril Fagan's Primer of Sidereal Astrology and The Solunars Handbook. Permit me to share some of my early impressions of these works, and to then summarize the paths I end up taking. Bradleys Solar and Lunar Returns is an impactful little book. He brought me a greater sense of how to use the planets -- streamlining their meanings, throwing out a lot of useless detail, and using them with greater effect and accuracy of interpretation. Planets and Angularity were emphasized. Fagan's works immediately immersed me in mathematics, and what seemed like tedious calculations. If his works strike you that way, then just stick with it long enough to get through it. I've found simple graphical/charting ways to now avoid all of that, and along with the help of computers one can now cast charts at a whim. What his math does teach you is to understand what you seek, how to get it, and what you can do with it. You will know your charts and celestial mechanics much better by being a little bit persistant. Fagan did leave us with a well-grounded methodology, but he also left us with a sense of exploration. He postulated and worked with a great number of charting approaches. Not all of them will appeal to you, and some I have found to not be useful compared to others. Explore them, try them, use what works for you. The most important lessons that I learned were that 1) Planets are the real focal point, and angular planets are extremely important. 2) The precession factor can be applied to Tropical charting to provide accurate Solar and Lunar Returns, 3) the questions about and meanings of Sidereal versus Tropical signs seemed inconclusive so I merely dropped the use of " signs " from all of my work except for natal charts where i use it sparingly -- I don't use rulerships at all. 4) I have found that Solar Return charts actually mark a continuing solar cycle that commences for each of us at birth and that this cycle can be charted for any day of the year by proportionalizing the MC movement between one years Solar Return and the next. I use the 5/4's of a degree factor (approximately) as demonstrated by Fagan in his Primer of Sidereal Astrology. There are simple charts that you can make and use to eliminate the math work for these in-between days, allowing you to just sketch out a chart in a minute or so by hand. 5) I have found that using the planets near the angles, using the aspects of conjunctions, oppositions, squares and paran-squares is all that I need to make very accurate assessments. 6) I have also found that progressing the angles between Solar Returns provides angular contact with natal planets and both transiting and solar return planets. These angle contacts have interpretive meaning. 6) I have also found that the ASC to MC arc, when projected from the MC back towards the DSC angle, marks a point which symbolizes where/when someone else can walk into your life uninvited -- so a planet (natal or transiting there) signifies who can do what. 7) While my present work is all focused on Solar Returns, I found that the Lunar Returns were also dynamite tools. For quite a number of years I was involved in a weekly study group that consisted of some 20-plus members. We often had well-known professionals and authors visit with us. I found that once I had moved into Sidereal practices that I could " predict " which planets would be at what angle of a Solar or Lunar chart before we even had time to do charts. It got to the point that many of us in the group were out-predicting the professional Tropicalists with ease and quickness and something approaching 100% accuracy. I tell you this to let you know that these Sidereal paths will lead you to being a very good and effective astrologer, they can can make work easier and more thrilling at the same time. If you follow this path you will have more fun in six months than your whole 30 years of prior experience. Simply put, astrology will work well, dependably, simply, excitingly. Go for it. When I ran a sidereal solar chart for me out of curiosity, and Saturn was dead on the asc, it was spooky because I've been experiencing Saturn forces lately to the point of making me very uncomfortable. If possible, distribute some yellow/red color sweets on Tuesday in childern or in any nearest temple or give Gud to cow on Tuesday. 3. Try taking your meals inside the kitchen only whenever you are at home and if possible, put Chandan tilk on ur forehead daily. 4. Do donate white-black color blanket/kambal to the needy in winter or whenever you can afford. Keep on repeating this every year if possible or whenever you get chance. Rest, dont get worry about anything. Do start the above Upayas, and I am sure your marriage will happen very soon and as per your expectaions.
