Kushmanda Navami – kushmand Ninth

The stories connected are as below

Might

have

been connected with the story as at * and exception to the rule

permitting Pumpkin Danam in Karteek MAsa. during Dwidala vrata. like

Mango being permitted during Shkha vrata, in AshaDa Masa, mustard by

Rayar Mutt

Learned scholars will enlighten better as I have no access to conmnected shastra books here

Kushmanda navami, also known as kushmand Ninth, is observed on Shukla Paksha Navami day in Kartik month.

Kushmand Navmi is named after Kushmand fruit (pumpkin).

It is also associated with the legend of kushmandasur Vadha (demolition of demon Kushmanda) by Lord VishNu

Kushmand Navami is associated with a popular legend of two brahmin brothers called Dhananjaya and krishna.

They

lived a happy life together and when they died Dhananjay attains the

heaven whereas his brother, Krishna, was sent to hell.

It is because of their results of puja and daan during the month of Kartik.

*Dhananjay performed Kartik Snana and donated a pumpkin full of gold to a Brahmin.

But KrishNa was unable to do the punya karya and puja during Kartik maas.

Thus,

it is believed that those who perform charity or offer food or any

other offerings to Brahmin

or to any poor during kartik month will

attain salvation.

Kushmanda Navami is believed to be the day when Lord Vishnu vanquished demon Kushmanda and restored Dharma.

It is observed on the ninth day during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon) in Kartik Month.

The day is of great significance in western and northern parts of India.

Kushmanda

Navami is also observed as Akshaya Navami in many regions. The day is

considered highly auspicious for new beginnings.

Popular

belief in Hinduism is that Dvapara Yuga began on this day. It is the

third of the four yugas or ages in Hinduism. The current is the fourth

age known as Kali Yuga.

The

demon Khusmanda had created havoc on earth. The name of the demon comes

from the pumpkin creepers that grew from his head. Lord Vishnu

annihilated him and restored Dharma.

Kushmanda or pumpkin is a Dwidala (dicot) item.

How can we give it as Daana during this month when it's prohibited to do naivedya or eat dwidala items?

Please clarify.

thanks
