Guest guest Report post Posted August 10, 2006 While reading Ramayanam, I understand that another name for Shri Agastya Muni is Kumbha Sambhava. Also in Narayaneeyam, in the dashakam of Gajendra Moksham, he has been named as "Kumbholbhuti" I would like to know how he got that name and would appreciate if somone can guide me on this. Guest guest Report post Posted August 10, 2006 Dear Shyamalaji, According to Dr.Sadagopan of International Ramanuja Society USA, this has its origin in the incident described in puranaas about Mitra and VaruNA placing their " seeds " in a water urn (Kumbhaa) in front of the celestial nymph Urvasi. From their seeds were born AgasthyA (the mover of the mountains/agasthi ) and VasishtA ( owner of wealth). His birth is mentioned in many purANams (Matsya, Padma and BrahmANDa PurANams) and in MahA BhAratham. Rg Vedam (7.33.13) also mentions his birth. Guest sameera Report post Posted November 11, 2013 Kumbhasambhava means born out of a Pot, in Mahabharata kauravas are all kumbhsambhava. meaning they were all born in a pot that consists of all the necessary nutrients for making a baby, even Dronacharaya the teacher of pandavas and kauravas was born in a pot. They had some techniques for growing an entire baby out of stem cells as per my understanding; Since Gandhari had an abortion and a fetus's tissues and blood is rich in stem cells the Vyasa rishi made use of the aborted fetus and cultured them into 101 babies . during the time of Mahabharata I came to know they even made the war elephants and horses in pots. as it is impossible for nature to make thousands of strong animals. I Have a biology background so I can make sense out of the scripts related to embryo culture. The life we live and technological advancement we have today is no match for the life and intelligence in people during the Mahabharata era and Ramayana era.
