Guest guest
Namaskar Narsimhaji and others, I want to do homam for chandi devi.I had arranged a copper tray in square shape.Almost 1 feet by 1 feet. So is it good measurement or not ? I also bought havan samagri, dry coconuts etc. Actually i want to start with short cut method so please advice me that ,how much ghee, havan samagri, dry coconut etc are used in one havana, so that i will plan these items accordingly.I have arranged 2 kg of havan samagri, 1 kg dry coconuts etc..So how to divide this in ratio as per single day process. How much ghee in grams per havana.ALthough i am reading your pdf notes on homam again and again but doing practical things r difficult and need much more focus and methodology. Although by God grace and your encouragement to people for doing homams, even i myself get transformed towards homam ,so thanks for that. But i need your step by step guidance as everything is not included in your notes( although its best notes on homam). Its my weakness actually. In normal homams by priests in India ,they do swaha with ghee in fire aswell in water. So tell me, I mean after they pour ghee through spoon in agni ,they immediately pour one drop of ghee in water too. So is it correct way or not ? If single person is doing a homam then how to manage ahutis of ghee and samagri both and of course mantra mala or notes u provided ? Bcz in India, normally full group or family do homams and priest only says mantras. So i think two people r must for homam. I have spoon made of wood ,Is it ok or i have to buy of copper metal ? I am still unmarried so can i do with my mother this chandi homam ? Please provide me some beautiful answers of these queries. And dont mind if my queries prove to be very simple and illogical. But i have to start from basics .So just cooperate with me as i love the work with perfection. In next mail i will ask some queries on mantras in order to understand properly. U r really spreading vedic wisdom in true practical sense. I salute to u. thanks and full respect to u Sir, dheeraj khosla, Delhi

Guest guest
Dear Dhiraj Bhai, following are answers for most of your questions to the best of my expereince of Chandi Homam. these are for 'One time' Chandi Homam only. 1) 1 kg Dry Coconut Halves are sufficient. You can break each coconut Half with your both the Palms and make 3 to 4 pieces. 2) A very small bowl of Ghee (roughly 6 to 8 full teaspoons) is sufficient as 'Ghee Aahutis' are to be given as only a single drop whenever it is mentioned in the Manual. 3) When Ghee Aahutis are specifically not mentioned, one can offer Aaahutis of Mamara (Kurmura), Almond, Cahshewnuts, Kishmis, Daadiya etc... Now one can choose each of the above stuffs one by one for offering as aahuti or can use single stuff. to elaborate, at each Swaha, one can take One Kishmis or Few Mamara or one almond or one cahsenut, or few Daadiya and offer to Agni. If you have Havan Saamagri (I suppose it is mixuture of some stuff which can be offer in to Homa fire), then it can also be offered as Aahuti same as like other mentioned above. i.e. after swaha, take very little 'Havan samgri powder and offer it. Thus one person can easily perform homam as explained above because firstly, one doesn't need to give Aahutis of Ghee and other stuff simultaneously. secondly, Counting of any mantra can be done with left fingers while offering aahutis by right hand. 2 kg of Havan Saamagri is more than enough. in fact even 100 gms will be sufficient if you use along with along with Kurmura etc.. 4) The Homa Fire represents Bhootagni of the person doing Homam. hence it is suggested that Aahutis are only offered by You alone while mother and others can sit beside you and concentrate. they will gain lot of spiritual benefit just by attending. 5) Wooden Ladle is ideal but in the absence of that copper one can also be used. 6) I have not much idea about the way of priest who offer ghee aahuti in Homa Agni as well as in water bowl. i think i've also seen that during Chandi Homam of Ashtami during Navaraatri. I suppose it also must be one of the right ways. however i have complete faith in what Narasimha has given in Manual and that also must be the other right way of many ways. although you can choose between the above two, i recommend to go as per the Manual if you are going to do as per the manual given by him. Lastly, i would suggest not to bother yourself with much technicalities and burden of perfection. in the first few runs, there are many things during Havan which can go imperefct. do as per manual and enjoy you Homam with your mother & others and offcourse with the mother of universe !!! I hope, i gave you the answers - Beautifully. Guest guest
Namaste Dheeraj, You can use as much quantity of offerings as you want, as long as the offerings are properly consumed in the fire. It all boils down to the amount of fire that is present in the homa kunda. If there is good amount of fire, even if you do not offer ghee, offering marmara , havan samagri etc will be easily consumed. But if the fire is small, then you do need to offer ghee drops to keep the fire alive. There were days when I used about 8-10 coconut halves for 1 chandi homam, ie started with 2 pieces of 1 coconut half, adding half piece of coconut half for each chapter and finally a piece for purnahuti. Now, I am able to manage 1 chandi homa with about 2-3 coconut halves. Others out there might be able to do with much less. It also depends on the coconut pieces itself, some pieces burn slow and some fast, so the quantity you may need may vary. Most importantly I suggest you follow an important advice of Narasimhaji. Pouring ghee drops around the corners of the coconut piece, making sure the piece catches fire from all the corners. Doing this way, at the end of the homa, all the coconut pieces are completely burnt, almost like powder. So, my suggestion to you is to have plenty of offerings at your disposal, try to keep the fire going ( big or small does not matter). Make sure the offerings that you put with each swaha (sloka) catch fire. Hold your offerings ie havan samagri, marmara, poha etc joining your ring finger, middle finger and thumb. This way, you will be offering decent amount with each swaha. Like Narasimhaji, I prepare a mixture of havan samagri, black and white sesame seeds, marmara, poha etc in a container and used the combination as offering. I am sure within first few days of your homa, you will have very good idea of how much ghee and other offerings you need to make. All the Best. Guest guest
Dear Utpalji, You have taken initiation from Narsimhaji and you have really gained the knowledge. Your answers are also convincing and you are also explaining elaborately. Can I ask one question? Why you are addressing Narsimhaji as Garu instead of Guruji? How much time is consumed to perform daily Chandi Homam? In simple chanting of only 13 chapters I take complete one hour.I am chanting mentally only. But if I do Homam, I think mentally it is not possible. Isn't it? Homam is to be done by uttering loudly only, I think. What do you say?Dr.Ashwin Rawal--- On Sun, 4/1/09, utpal pathak <vedic_pathak wrote: utpal pathak <vedic_pathak Re: some queries on homam Date: Sunday, 4 January, 2009, 2:13 AM Dear Dhiraj Bhai, following are answers for most of your questions to the best of my expereince of Chandi Homam. these are for 'One time' Chandi Homam only.1) 1 kg Dry Coconut Halves are sufficient. Guest guest
Dear Narsimhaji, I have prepared one mixture of Havan Samagri for offerings in Homam. This contains following ingrediants in a powder form. White Sesam 100 Gms Barley 100 Gms Guggulu 100 Gms Bilva Patra 250 Gms Dry Lotus 250 Gms Dry Coconut I half Khadir powder 100 Gms Almond 50 Gms Karpur 10 pieces Cow Ghee mixed to this powder as required. I use this mixture in daily routin Homam. 4 or 8 Ahutis to each deities. Is this mixture Ok? Any item to be added or omited? Is this allowed in Chandi Homam also? Please answer sir so that knowingly or unknowingly I may not do any mistake (Dosha) as was the discussion on Homa Kunda. Guest guest
Namaste, Ravi and Utpal have replied to you. I will leave the questions they have already replied too. As Ravi said, the amount of materials you need depends on how big a fire you maintain. You will learn and fine-tune with experience. There may be a tradition in some parts of India to offer a drop of ghee in water after offering it in fire. But it is not necessary. When doing Chandi homam, some people invoke the Mother in an idol and offer water to the idol with each mantra along with offering ghee in fire. Again, it is not necessary. Managing ahutis and reading is difficult, but one can master it with practice. It is really advisable for you to do both reading and offering ahutis yourself. Wooden spoon is perfectly alright. Guest guest
Namaste, It looks fine. I do not know what "khadir powder" is. Others are all fine. Juwar dhani (available in Indian stores) is a good material to add to your nice mix. When you are doing a homam for the Mother, anar dana (dried pomegranate seeds - available in Indian stores) is a good item to add. White sesame seeds are good for spiritual progress. Black sesame seeds are good for physical and health issues. If you care about that, they can be added. Marmara/mamra (popped rice) is good to add if you want financial prosperity. It is possible to do with just ghee and nothing also. Those who do homam in fire and smoke conscious western contries with a small fire should put very limited amounts of offerings and rely on ghee mostly. Those who do homam with a big fire can put pretty much anything and it will burn. Try to ensure that whatever you put burns. Dr.Ashwin Rawal--- On Sun, 4/1/09, rporuri <rporuri wrote: rporuri <rporuri Re: some queries on homam Date: Sunday, 4 January, 2009, 4:54 AM Namaste Dheeraj,You can use as much quantity of offerings as you want, as longas the offerings are properly consumed in the fire. It all boils down tothe amount of fire that is present in the homa kunda. If there is goodamount of fire, even if you do not offer ghee, offering marmara , havansamagri etc will be easily consumed. But if the fire is small, then youdo need to offer ghee drops to keep the fire alive. There were days when I used about 8-10 coconut halves for 1chandi homam, ie started with 2 pieces of 1 coconut half, adding halfpiece of coconut half for each chapter and finally a piece forpurnahuti. Now, I am able to manage 1 chandi homa with about 2-3 coconuthalves. Others out there might be able to do with much less. It alsodepends on the coconut pieces itself, some pieces burn slow and somefast, so the quantity you may need may vary. Most importantly I suggest you follow an important advice ofNarasimhaji. Pouring ghee drops around the corners of the coconut piece, making sure the piece catches fire from all the corners. Doing this way,at the end of the homa, all the coconut pieces are completely burnt, almost like powder. So, my suggestion to you is to have plenty of offerings at yourdisposal, try to keep the fire going ( big or small does not matter). Make sure the offerings that you put with each swaha (sloka) catch fire.Hold your offerings ie havan samagri, marmara, poha etc joining yourring finger, middle finger and thumb. This way, you will be offeringdecent amount with each swaha.Like Narasimhaji, I prepare a mixture of havan samagri, black andwhite sesame seeds, marmara, poha etc in a container and used thecombination as offering.I am sure within first few days of your homa, you will have verygood idea of how much ghee and other offerings you need to make. All the Best.Ravi, "DHEERAJ KHOSLA"<khosladheeraj@ ...> wrote:>> , "DHEERAJ KHOSLA"> khosladheeraj@ wrote:> >> > Namaskar Narsimhaji and others,> >> > I want to do homam for chandi devi.I> > had arranged a copper tray in square shape.Almost 1 feet by 1> feet.> > So is it good measurement or not ? Guest guest
Namaste, I forgot to add: It is not necessary to read loud in homam. Even if you read almost mentally with a very small sound, that is fine. If vocal cords are vibrating with mantra, that is enough. A very short bare-bones Chandi homam can be done in one hour, if one does only 13 chapters and a small count of the Chandu moola mantra and one is proficient in reading saptashati. If one is not fluent in the text, even bare-bones Chandi homam can take 1.5-2 hours. As things like kavacha, argala, keelaka, raatri sooktam, devi sooktam, parivaara devata aahutis etc are added on, it can go upto 3-3.5 hours for one not very fluent in the main saptashati text. If you can read saptashati in one hour, a bare-bones Chandi homam can be done in 1 hour 15 min. How much time is consumed to perform daily Chandi Homam? In simple chanting of only 13 chapters I take complete one hour.I am chanting mentally only. But if I do Homam, I think mentally it is not possible. Isn't it? Homam is to be done by uttering loudly only, I think. You can break each coconut Half with your both the Palms and make 3 to 4 pieces.2) A very small bowl of Ghee (roughly 6 to 8 full teaspoons) is sufficient as 'Ghee Aahutis' are to be given as only a single drop whenever it is mentioned in the Manual.3) When Ghee Aahutis are specifically not mentioned, one can offer Aaahutis of Mamara (Kurmura), Almond, Cahshewnuts, Kishmis, Daadiya etc... Now one can choose each of the above stuffs one by one for offering as aahuti or can use single stuff.to elaborate, at each Swaha, one can take One Kishmis or Few Mamara or one almond or one cahsenut, or few Daadiya and offer to Agni.If you have Havan Saamagri (I suppose it is mixuture of some stuff which can be offer in to Homa fire), then it can also be offered as Aahuti same as like other mentioned above. i.e. after swaha, take very little 'Havan samgri powder and offer it.Thus one person can easily perform homam as explained above because firstly, one doesn't need to give Aahutis of Ghee and other stuff simultaneously. secondly, Counting of any mantra can be done with left fingers while offering aahutis by right hand.2 kg of Havan Saamagri is more than enough. in fact even 100 gms will be sufficient if you use along with along with Kurmura etc..4) The Homa Fire represents Bhootagni of the person doing Homam. hence it is suggested that Aahutis are only offered by You alone while mother and others can sit beside you and concentrate. they will gain lot of spiritual benefit just by attending.5) Wooden Ladle is ideal but in the absence of that copper one can also be used.6) I have not much idea about the way of priest who offer ghee aahuti in Homa Agni as well as in water bowl. i think i've also seen that during Chandi Homam of Ashtami during Navaraatri. I suppose it also must be one of the right ways. however i have complete faith in what Narasimha has given in Manual and that also must be the other right way of many ways. although you can choose between the above two, i recommend to go as per the Manual if you are going to do as per the manual given by him.Lastly, i would suggest not to bother yourself with much technicalities and burden of perfection. in the first few runs, there are many things during Havan which can go imperefct. do as per manual and enjoy you Homam with your mother & others and offcourse with the mother of universe !!!I hope, i gave you the answers - Beautifully.Warm Regards,Utpal, "DHEERAJ KHOSLA" <khosladheeraj@ ...> wrote:>> , "DHEERAJ KHOSLA" > <khosladheeraj@ > wrote:> >> > Namaskar Narsimhaji and others,> > > > I want to do homam for chandi devi.I > > had arranged a copper tray in square shape.Almost 1 feet by 1 > feet. > > So is it good measurement or not ? Guest guest
Namaste!!! * I have just performed 7 Chandi Homam during Navaratri Days. The first Chandi Homam took 4 Hours (Which included almost everything given in Manual) * When I took little short cut, it took 3 hours. * It Takes me 1 hour 25 minutes to read Chandi Paath (13 chapters). * In my opinion, Loud or Mental, it depends as to which way one is comfortable and enjoys the Homam. As for me, i enjoy little loud chanting. * If i write, doesn't really mean gain of knowledge. I have done homam for say around 40 times. There may be members who are doing Homam for last 1 or 2 years without making any fuss. I am not trying to be *artificially humble* but giving you the facts. My father often says `Bahu Ratnaani Vasudhara' . I am sure there would be many Ratnaas on this group who likes to remain silent. On the contrary I like to write if I feel like writing, without worrying about anything. i would request you and others to address me as just Utpal. * `Garu' is a Respectful word in Telugu Language. Like `Shree'. I am addressing Narasimha with `Garu' since some 3 years now. But I don't put `Ji' because it gives me feeling of distance. It is his greatness as he doesn't mind even if I write his name without any pre or Suffix. I address him variedly as Garu / Narasimha Garu/Rao Garu/Narasimha. There is no consistency in addressing him but I want to be consistent in following his spiritual instructions. I apologize to the list if there were lot of valueless writings in this message. Guest guest
Namaste, Yes, some people offer it for Sun in navagraha homam. Dry turmeric sticks can be offered to the divine Mother along with poornaahuti or as an aahuti. Some people offer turmeric sticks while chanting Durga sooktam, at the end of Chandi homam. If you do Chandi homam, you may consider offering turmeric stick as the aahuti when chanting the 11th chapter shloka " sarva mangala maangalye shive sarvaartha saadhike, saranye tryambake gauri naaraayani namostu te " .
