First you download the zip file of your town in order to have the right Ekadasi day at your place: http://www.vaisnavacalendar.info/csvfiles/ There should be two Ekadasis each month. There're also other places like http://welcome.to/vcal to get an Ekadasi calendar. At http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ekadashi there's an explanation to fast from grains and beans. It is also good to eat less and chant more on Ekadasi since it is an auspicious day to easily make spiritual advancement.
