Heavy downpours toppled mud houses, flooded low-lying area, uprooted trees and snapped communication links at many places in the state. All major rivers, fed by monsoon rains, were in spate as district administrations stepped up efforts to provide relief to the marooned people. Most of the fatalities occurred due to house collapses, officials said adding nine rain-related deaths took place in Rae Bareli, seven in Fatehpur, six in Mainpuri and five in Agra since Sunday evening. In Fatehpur, surging waters submerged a railway bridge over Pandu river affecting movement of trains, they said. Low-lying areas were inundated raising the spectre of water-borne diseases afflicting the state.
