There is a sitting platform attached to the pole which is anchored into the ground. If he can levitate let him do it without the pole. Check out Criss Angle if you want to see this trick down right. Master illusionist extraordinaire. No poles and he stands on water spouting up from fountains and flys over trees. I still can't figure out how he does it.
