Many developments are taking place in Sigatoka Town in an effort to revamp the place and bring back what it was known for — tourists.

Lautoka Town Council health inspector Anand Sami Pillay said they had been working closely with stakeholders in planning and approving the new developments.

Mr Pillay said even though Sigatoka did not have much space to expand, proper planning by stakeholders ensured expansion. He said at the moment, new buildings were planned and some were being built in town. One of them is the National Fire Authority complex which cost about $0.5million. Mr Pillay said the new Hare Krishna complex cost $1.3million and the upcoming three-storey Suria Narayan building would cost about $0.5million.

He said a foreign investor had shown interest in developing the Sigatoka river bank between the new and old bridge.

Mr Pillay said it was important to maintain the river and at the same time turn it into one of the main tourist attractions.

He said they had also worked on traffic flow because it was important to keep traffic flowing as the town expands."But since the town has developed, there has been no traffic problem."

ENDS.
