That was a bit of a joke for the purpose of rhetoric.

 

Suicide is not "sanctioned" by any mainstream faiths as far as I know.

 

The Shastras *do* describe great yogis who can leave their body through the crown chakra at will. In a sense, you could call this "sanctioned suicide".

 

Of course, there *are* descriptions (if memory serves) of souls having to exist as ghosts when they willfully kill their own bodies.

 

Suicide is not recommended to anybody! Chanting the Holy Names of the Lord is recommended for all!!
