Looks like ISKCON focuses on preaching and opening temples at places where people are familiar with the vedic tradition. Many places all over Europe where once preaching centers were started with great effort are meanwhile abandoned.

YANAM:President APJ Abdul Kalam will lay foundation stone for a 350-foot Yanam Tower on June 29.

The tower being modelled after Eiffel Tower of Paris will be erected at a cost of Rs 43 crore. It will have a 10-acre park around it, aerial view and other facilities, said Pondicherry Tourism Minister Malladi Krishna Rao.

Speaking to newsmen here on Tuesday, the Minister said that Kalam would also launch a health scheme under which Rs 2.5 lakh would be provided as financial assistance for every family, and also a programme for plantation of 1.1 lakh sapplings.

Explaining the development activities in Yanam, Krishna Rao, who completed one year as the Tourism Minister, said the constituency would be developed with Rs 400 crore.

Plans are afoot to construct an ISKCON temple at a cost of Rs 20 crore, Venkateswara temple at a cost of Rs 6 crore, a huge statue of Lord Hanuman with Rs 5.11 crore, Bharat Matha statue with Rs 78 lakh and Jesus statue with Rs 32 lakh. A laser show facility would be set up at a cost of Rs 80 lakh.

An indoor stadium, international cricket stadium and a golf court would be constructed.
