We are two brahmacaris in Pandharpur Dham who are forming a Nama rock band for touring Maharastra and the rest of India. We have a small rehursal studio here in Pandharpur with Keyboards, drums, guitars, mixer, etc. We would like to invite devotee musicians from around the world to come and visit us here at this nice place and have some jam sessions for inspiration and future nama rock concerts. The jam sessions are scheduled to take place from the 20'th of November to the 18'th of december 2006 here in Sri Pandharpur dham. We can facillitate your accomadation and Prasadam for the whole month or how long you should choose to stay. Its rather sad that in India we have now come to this. Instead of forming a nama-bhajan band we now have a rajasic India brahmacari rock band. Don't mind but I think this just reflects the increasingly fallen state of Indian society, which is more and more madly pursuing anything western. We appreciate your concern that we now have a rajasic India brahmachari rock band in India. We are writing to attempt to clarify the "Nama Rock" situation. We beg your permission and blessings in order that we can attempt to clarify matters. Perhaps "Nama Rock" is too heavy a title. Better we call it "Hare Krishna Orchestra" - kirtan with instruments from around the world. Our vision is to offer Krishna consciousness in a modern package to the youth of India. Gaura Krishna Prabhu (Originally from Denmark) and I are serving under the guidance of HH Lokanath Swami. He is encouraging us to package "old wine in a new bottle" - To offer the same eternal message of Srimad Bhagavatam and Bhagavad Gita, and especially the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra packaged to appeal to the modern youth of India. In the interests of preaching to India's youth, Gaura Krishna and I are attempting to put together a kirtan party to perform kirtan for specialized occasions like the National Youth Festival we had in Pune a couple of years back. Titiksava Karunika Prabhu also performed there, as well as at the Cross Maidan Festival in Mumbai organized by Shyamasundara Prabhu. Titiksava Kurunika Prabhu performs "Naamrock". His program is exclusively rock and blues based music. We are hoping for a more varigated presentation. We hope it won't be too much rajasic as Gaura Krishna and I are both aging brahmacharis over the age of 40. We hope to put something tasteful together, more of an "East meets West" fusion, with Indian classical ragas played on trumpet and other instruments, and put to a modern beat, as well as traditional Bengali mrdungas. We are hoping for a wide variety of musical styles in order to offer different flavors and moods to the audience. We are not planning to replace the traditional "Bhajan Band". We love bhajans and traditional kirtans and strive to perform traditional Gaudiya Vaisnava expressions of devotion whenever we get the opportunity. We agree with you 100%. As our target preaching audience - India's youth, is getting more and more westernized, and "more and more madly pursuing anything western". We hope to experiment and see what kind of Krishna conscious preaching tools we can employ to connect India's modern youth to Krishna consciousness. We have a hope that our plan of a Krishna conscious musical performance and multimedia presentation can facilitate their access to ISKCON. We have received appreciations and encouragement for our previous services of performing kirtan including western instruments from HH Jayapataka Swami, HG Shyamasundara Prabhu, HH Giriraja Swami, HH Navayogendra Swami, HH Indradyumna Swami, HH Radhanath Swami, HH Lokanath Swami, HG Bhaktivinode Prabhu, HG Radheshyam Prabhu, and others. Of course, any sort of ISKCON preaching program is incomplete without the distribution of Srila Prabhupada's books and prasadam. Therefore, any performance that we do in the future would certainly include these essential aspects of preaching. We are planning to do a recording of our first piece, "Krishna Jinaka Nama He". We would be honored if you would take some of your valuable time to listen to it, and give your comments. Let them to dance for a while and break their horns. Target calf, mild, not so young or old cows who are interested for Krsna's melody and soft grasses. Krsna is not for band but flute. Those who want sweet melody of flutes from heart of Krsna they will be attracted. Too much banding is mode of passion.We don't want Kurukestra in Vrindavan.
