Guest guest
Om Namah Sivaya www.hindujagruti.org MAHARASHTRA, INDIA, September 9, 2006: During Ganesha Chaturthi, St. Mary School in Panvel, Maharashtra, scheduled exams while all other schools in the vicinity of Panvel had holiday. After receiving complaints from parents, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti in association with the BJP, RSS, Bajrang Dal. Panchayat Samiti of Sukapur, Shivagiri Seva Sangh, Gayatri Parivaar, and Sanatan Sanstha staged a protest at the school. The school director apologized and assured everyone this will not happen again. Also, a school holiday was declared for September 6. More than 80 percent of the students attending the school are Hindus, and despite the apology for not having a holiday during Ganesha Chaturthi, the protesting group and parents believe there are a number of other issues that need to be corrected. These range from barring Hindu boys and girls from wearing bindis and tilaks to having pictures of Jesus only in each classroom and forcing Hindu students to recite Catholic prayers against their wishes. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti plans to lodge a complaint with the state and request an inquiry into what they believe is harassment of Hindu students in convent-managed schools in the Raigad District. They also ask that parents of Hindu children studying in convent schools report harassment.
