The foolish leaders of a godless civilization try to devise various plans to bring about peace and prosperity in the godless world under a patent trademark of materialism, and because such attempts are illusory only, the people elect incompetent, blind leaders, one after another, who are incapable of offering solutions. If we want at all to end this anomaly of a godless civilization, we must follow the principles of revealed scriptures like the <CITE>Srimad-Bhagavatam</CITE> and follow the instruction of a person like Srila Sukadeva Goswami who has no attraction for material gain.

 

 

 

 

Sukadeva Gosvami was the illustrious son of Sri Vyasadeva, who compiled the Vedas. From birth, Sukadeva Gosvami renounced all worldliness. After the devastating Mahabharat War, when the Pandavas' heir King Pariksit was cursed to die within 7 days, he approached the great saints and sages and inquired, "Please tell me what is to be done in preparation for leaving this body so that I may attain spiritual perfection." They all had different opinions, but then Sukadeva Gosvami came into their midst, and at once everyone deferred to him in recognition of his exalted spiritual realization as a pure devotee of the Supreme Lord. Sukadeva Gosvami at once advised King Pariksit to devote his remaining time to hearing about the glories of the Supreme Personality of Godhead as narrated in the <CITE>Srimad-Bhagavatam</CITE>, also known as the <CITE>Bhagavat Purana</CITE>. Therefore the King sat down, together with all the saintly personalities gathered there, and listened intently as Sukadeva Gosvami repeated the 18,000 verses of <CITE>Srimad-Bhagavatam</CITE> for the benefit of King Pariksit and all those persons in attendance.
