Identifying a genuine Naga Mani

Hello Every one,

Thanks for starting a wonderful forum like this and I hope some one

can answer my questions.

Firstly I had come across a nagamani when I was in college about 10

years back and absoloutely a pauper :-)

I had seen it in a garage office behind the JAS hotel located at

vile parle east on highway no. 8. It was said that it was found by a

tribal in Thane and not knowing what to do with it was handed over

to a muslim alim. His wife supposedly touched it and it lost its

power as some spirit occupied it. I too found the story a bit far

fetched but interestingly the owner of the same would put the stone

in his had and clench it in a fist and say some mantra and you could

observe that the color changed from a darkish brown to creamish

brown.

Thanks to lord shani that by wearing a synthetic sapphire which i

bought for Rs. 125 (if i had money to buy a genuine one i wouldnt

have worn it) my life in the past 24 months has drastically improved

and i have begun my pursuites of finding a nagamani.

Does any one on this post have one? Can somebody post a picture of

the same? Plus how to identify a genuine nagamani.

Any sources? I have heard they are available at affordable prices if

you contact a right adivasi source. Its reddish and some what

resembles amber. Since this is beyond science, I would rely on the

information passed on by word of mouth.

Looking forward to your guidance,

Regards,

Jay

Here is a link to a picture of a Naga Mani

http://www.p-g-a.org/naga-mani.html or visit Richard Shaw-Brown Museum

http://www.sacred-gemology.info/

You can identify that it's genuine because it glows in the dark.

I am also interested in purchasing a Naga Mani. It is my understanding

that peasant snake hunters can identify which cobra is carrying it and

can capture them and that they are willing to do this at a cheap price

as they are not aware of its value.

Richard are you able to sell them through your store?

Hello All,

Namaste!!! I saw a real cobra nagamani. They MUST glow in the dark and

be like a "polished sword blade". The one I saw was owned by a rich man

in Sri Lanka (a Muslim) and not for sale.

It might be possible to get non-cobra naga-mani, from other snakes, but

the only test for those is a gem test that cannot disprove it. And they

don't shine, opaque.

The real question is WHY??? Why would anyone SELL a Naga Mani?

And WHY would anyone use a bogus synthetic stone but want a REAL,

natural Nagamani? If someone really likes synthetic stones then why not

get a synthetic naga mani?? I know where you can get a "glass" naga

mani... cheap too.

Best rgds,

Richard
