this is an endless debate which will go round and round eat up

valuable band-width, time and effort

Yashendra, you raise a couple good points, but to be honest, your

arguments are mostly histrionics and there is no intelligible way to

address each and every opinion you have

for e.g. lord buddha was a warrior that taught martial arts, the

aryan people are from the north pole, jesus died in India,

vegetarianism was always practiced by vedic people etc etc etc are

all unprovable in any case and there is precious little to support

any of these conjectures except your own opinion - the texts you have

sourced (Cremo, Kersten) are at the academic fringe at best and

nobody who has sincerely devoted their life to looking at such issues

would lend much credibility to them or to your opinions, especially

since they appear to be highly selective and revisionist and ignores

99.9% of the other research out there that controverts your theses

further, precious little of your argument has anything to do with the

subject at hand - which is the use of meat in Ayurveda

this issue arose because _someone_ stated that consuming meat causes

fear, but since fear is a lakshana of vata, and meat-based

preparations are stated to reduce vata, it is logically and textually

inconsistent

i have specifically raised the issue that meat as a dietary article

and therapeutic food is mentioned in every single Ayurvedic text:

Charaka samhita, Sushruta samhita, Kashyapa samhita, Bhela samhita,

Ashtanga Hrdaya, Cakradatta, Bhavaprakasha etc etc - this CANNOT be

ignored

the consumption of meat is also mentioned in non-Ayurvedic texts such

as the Arthashastra, which lays down regulations for raising,

processing and storage of such foods, and is also mentioned in the

Vedic texts

some of these issues are raised here:

http://www.hinduonnet.com/2001/08/14/stories/13140833.htm

nobody is saying you have to eat meat Yashendra, but similarly, why

should we ignore the entire corpus of Ayurveda because it doesn't fit

with your personal interpretation of the truth? this is an

Ayurvedic list, and if things are going to be stated that by any

reasonable estimation are just plain wrong (as per Ayurveda) please

have a little understanding if you meet with objection

best to all... todd

> Yashendra- Whatever I have said is backed by innumerable scriptures

> These are not conjectures. And, I have not based my opinions on

> Cremo or

> Kersten. Actually, I have not even read Cremo !! I simply gave u

> the title ( and

> I know the content) to u.

maybe then don't reference work you yourself haven't read - it is a

matter of some integrity where scholarship is concerned

> Dear Dr. u just keep saying that what I say doesn’t have

actually, you haven't provided any evidence, just lots of opinion and

names of books

>

> Lets take Buddha … Anyone who knows even the basic story of Buddha

> knows that

> Buddha defeated all contemporary warriors in all forms of warfare &

> martial

> skills ! This He did even at the swayamvara of princess Yasodhara !

> And one

> Their

> Read ‘Yog Vasistha’, read ‘Mahabharata”, read “ King Bhoja’s ‘

> Samarangan

> Sutradhara’, read B. G. Tilak’s “The Arctic Home in the Vedas’, read

> ‘Zendavesta’….. and after that I will give u another list !

please cite your source, verse and page number and amaze us with your

erudition

if you can actually quote the text even better

>

> Dr. this is an intellectual forum. U will have to provide

> ‘histrionics’, I find it very hilarious……………

glad to be so entertaining, but to be honest, i cannot say the same...

btw, one exclamation point is probably sufficient, lest you lend

credence to my claim of histrionics

>

> And about Jesus having lived in India, there is a long list of

> arguments point

> by point.

>

i will, if you post them to the list, once again, as per my request

above

i fail to see why i should do your work for you

> If u meet any common Indian and tell him that Vedic people were non-

> veg, he

> from the Vedas

> which says that original Vedic were non-veg ! I am waiting. I want

> whether u base ur knowledge on wild speculation, others’

> interpretations, or

> anything else.

well, so far, you are the only person on the list come up with such

statements, and might i add, in quite an excitable fashion

dr bhate himself has stated that meat eating was common in India in

Vedic times, and other indian doctors and scholars on this list have

taken issue with your statements as well, but for some reason the guy with the non-indian name has excited your passions the most

>

> Your answer is awaited. “ as per Ayurveda”. Amen.

you win Yashendra

i give up
