this wonderful verse of Prahlada maharaja in sb 5.18.9 is quite close to the

sanskrit pramana for the nice upadesha I got below:

does any pandits have any more verses in sanskrit/ bengali pramana's for

the below statements, I'd really like to quote it, please let me know.

as related to me by Chandamauli swami in 1996 in NY temple: This is what I

remember, I beg His holiness should correct any defects if any

unintentionally made..

once In Vraja in early 1970's Radhanatha swami heard this siksa from a sri

vaisnava sadhu:

"there are 2 things one should forget and 2 things one should remember"

1) if anyone has done anything bad to you, forget it!."..

(the understanding is if one thinks 'how can I'?) the reply is that holding

onto a grudge will stop your own ability to peacefully contemplate the

Lord).

2) "if you have done something good for someone --forget it!"

(no one should think that the recipient of ones charity or assistance should

be perpetually grateful. they are a part and parcel of the supreme, so to

serve them was our duty, to be executed without consideration of any

personal benefit..)

3) "if one can forget the first 2 items, then they will get the strength to

carry out remembering the next 2 items, don't try to remember the next 2

items if one is unprepared to forget the first 2 items"

what are the 2 items one should remember?

4) "one should always remember the Name, Fame, Form, pastimes of the

Personality of Godhead".

5) "one should always remember...This might be my last day" (I might die

today).

(meaning if I might die today, what type of dependency would I cultivate,

and who maintains insignificant quarrelsome mentality, if they feel

convinced that today might be my last day?)

Radhe Krishna,

Really very nice. These are aatmagunas given in a nutshell. Humility, patience, vinayatha, Soulabhyatha, Kaarunyatha - many more - these are aatmagunaas which every bhaktha is supposed to inculcate. The life and times of every haridasa cutting across sampradaya barriers are filled with these wonderful traits. Only a soul who can inculcate these attributes can ever thing of being nearer to god irrespective of the fact what sadhana he is doing and what grantha he is reciting and how many times. But it is a different story that aatmaguna and Bhagawath bhakthi are mutually complimentary to each other. The simple fact that one is in bhakthi - would mean he would develop aatmagunas. But it is the question of time - as to how early he picks up the traits.

Radhe Krishna
