Om Namah Shivaya; Surya also aluded to the expertise of Prasannan. What is his speciality in determining when and where Amma will help us observe Guru Purnima in Her Holy Presence? I am not that familiar with the behind the scenes machinations. No one disagrees that Amma and Amma alone will be the "decider" (oops a W reference). Nirmala stated that she was banking on Washington DC but must now consider Iowa. I may attend both locales. However if Amma authorizes Guru Purnima in Iowa it would probably be after Devi Bhava. This is not as bad as it sounds if Iowa DB ends at 5-6 a.m. San Ramom DB has been gravitating closer toward 1:00 pm the next day. This son's pilgramage may need to sacrifice sleep. Prasannan is Amma's Jyotishi, or vedic astrologer, and he's the one who could tell them when the actual time and date for Guru Purnima will fall...as that kind of thing is part of his job description. Of course people can also refer to the panchangams themselves, but many "traditional" Indians will not step outside the door without consulting their Jyotishi as to the auspiciousness of the day...(just joking a little....but it is true in the essence of the thought that they consult the Jyotishi before making any major (and sometimes minor) decisions in life)...they consult the Jyotishi for marriage, starting a business, starting on a trip...asking when they will get rich...when they may recover from a serious illness, these kinds of things...of course deciding auspicious days for the ritual worship of certain Deities, or even Amma's Guru Purnima function would fall within the purview of the traditional Jyotishi's job description. the belief is that if one will perform the worship on the most auspicious day, that the worship will have a far stronger and beneficial effect and the results will be correspondingly better. after studying and experiencing how Jyotish works for some time now, i have come to accept these beliefs as being no more than appropriate...as they appear to work very well... in Amma's Divine Love, and in Her service, as ever, visvanathan Aum Amriteswarayai Namaha! Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya: Dear Nirmala, Vishvanathan, Surya and ALL: So then to summarize this string - it appears that IOWA is the frontrunner. Just so I make no mistakes, Nirmala, you reported that Pranannan feels that IOWA is the most likely. Is that correct? I plan to attend (If Guru so Graces) both Iowa and DC. However I have an Amma friend who is booking for Washington, D.C. only. Surya also feels it will be IA. Oh well bring on the corn. Namah Shivaya, GeorgeSon P.S. To Surya - we are both from California and you can bet your bippy that it is expensive. Oh and that drive roundtrip from O'hare? Yow it is appearing more and more like an Indian style pilgrimage. I agree with Manoj that the extra discipline is needed. Amma is shaking us out of complacency. Jai KALI Ma!
