Mangalik Dosha (To Shri Sunil)

Dear Shri. Sunil:

What your Guru has taught is about the most severe case of Mars Dosha,

i.e., conditions in which the Mars dosha will directly affect the

longevity of the spouse. The other positions are indicative of

undesirable characteristics or lack of adjustment that may mar marital

felicity. That is why he may not have insisted on the other

positions.

There is a general consensus among south-indian astrologers that Mars

dosha occurs if Mars is in the 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, and 12th houses

from Lagna or Moon. The relevant slokha is:

"DHANA VYAYECHA PATHALE JAMITRE CHASTHTAME KUJA

STRINAAM BHARTHRU VINAASAMCHA BHARTHUNAAM STRIVINAASANAM"

It appears in more than one classic including Naradeeyam- the treatise

on Astrology ascribed to Shri Narada.

The logic of Mars dosha is simple,..... 2nd house is the bhava for

family, 4th for character of a female, 7th for spouse, 8th for

mangalya, and 12th for bed pleasures. Mars is a planet of strife and

domination, and the presence of such a malefic in such vital bhavas

was believed to affect marital felicity. Even Mars in the 5th house

is bad for progenic matters in that the delivery may be difficult or

surgically assisted. But, it is not considered as Mars dosha.

Ofcourse, there are exceptions to the points I have mentioned above.

Again, there is NO REFERENCE TO MARS DOSHA in classsics like BPHS or

Brihat Jatakam. But, unfortunately too much importance to this aspect

without taking into account the exceptions has been a bug bear for

many otherwise good horoscopes.

Blessed be.

Dear Dakshinamoorthi ji,

I would like to add that the exception rules such as:

"Sapthme kuja dosha syath nakra karkatayor vina" are also similar

ones without proper authority. It is said that such slokas are present

in Devakeralam. But they are not present in Devakeralam (i.e. Chandra-

Kala Nadi). Is it that they are speaking about some other Devakeralam

which I haven't seen? Is there more than one book with the name

Devakeralam?

Considering Kuja Dosha (Mangala Dosha) as a thing separate from

general prediction steam itself is a diversion from the fundamentals.

Since, then we have to consider Sani Dosha, Rahu Dosha, Surya Dosha

etc as well, as seperate entities!! More than that there is other

specially important things such as placement of 6th lord in 7th. For

example we can consider the slokas such as:

"Meenasthe madane dinesa thanayo hanyadwadhoom nischayal..." etc.

Placement of 6th lord in seventh:

1) Sa in Pi in 7th for Vi Lagna

2) Ve in Sc in 7th for Tu Lagna

3) Ju in Cp in 7th for Cp Lagna etc

Are we (the society) not is giving undue importance to the Managalic

Dosha?

Most of the classics become corrupted due to the insertion of new

content (new slokas) amid the old text. Probably Naradeeyam (Narada

samhita) also suffered this, and I have some proof for the fact that

it is a book created around AD. 250. Of course Narada Samhita is not

that popular among astrolers. Mostly they are quoting this sloka from

a book called "Jathaka Chandrika" which include this sloka without a

proper authority in its "Parisishta" (remaining) chapter. (There 3 or

more books with the name Jathaka Chandrika. I am not speaking about

the popular Jathaka chandrika that deals with Vimsothari Desa system

and prediction). Actually I would suggest that a good astrologer

should discard the slokas like "Dhana vyeye cha pathale...." like

slokas, (Which gives undue importance to only one special planat, Ma!)

since they are even against the fundamentals.

If we look at the classics it would become clear to us that, the

prediction for Ma in 2nd House, Ma 4th House....Ma in 12th House etc

are entirely different! This sloka houses all of them under a single

head and says that husband/wife will die due to this common place

yoga!! Which itself clearly states that it is not a correct sloka that

came from a real authority, but an interpolated one!!

In short I agree with your opinions. I would love to see your valuble

comments about the above statements.

Love,

Sreenadh

Respected Dakshinamoorthi ji

Thanx for the clarification. One more query: Should we while

matching horoscopes, say that a person who has mars in the 7th house

and the counterparty who has mars in the 2nd, 4th, or 12th house

have compatible horosopes for marriage, assuming all other factors

are matching.

Dear Sunilji:

I would say that the compatibility is o.k. in the case you have

mentioned. However, there is another opinion among learned

astrologers in this regard.....There is a school of thought by which

they feel that the position of Mars should be identical, i.e., if mars

is in the 2nd house in one horoscope then the matching horoscope will

be only another one with Mars in the 2nd house, and so on. They have

even allocated different percentages to the doshas thus arising due to

different position of Mars and feel that both the horoscopes should

have similar percentage of dosha.

While dealing with Mars dosha, I feel, it is better to check whether

both the horoscopes have dosha per se, and then to rely on remedies if

we intuitively feel a mild mismatch in the quantum of dosha while

other factors are alright, rather than going too deep into it thus

giving undue importance to this single aspect.

There are mantrik methods by which the severity of the Mars dosha can

be reduced if the dosha cannot be entirely banished. Performing them

with devotion under the guidance of an expert pandit may help.

Sometimes I have seen that young ladies whose horoscopes have Mars

dosha performing regular worship in Durga temples on Tuesdays in the

fear that their marital lives may be affected, later get wonderful

alliances probably due to the merit accruing out of their devoted

worship! Thus, their very mars dosha had become a boon. This, I

would say, should be the attitude towards Mars dosha instead of

getting unduly worried about the dosha.

Blessed be.

Dear Saman ji,

Dakshina moorthi ji's meaning is perfectly clear and correct.

7th house indicates marriage and sex.

8th house indicates life after marriage.

Mangalya means "the state/condition after marriage".

The string wound around the neck of marriend women is known as

"Mangalya suthra", just for a comparison. :)

Most of the classics advice us to think about the "state/condition

after marriage" with the 8th house, i.e. Mangalya Sthana.

Love,

Sreenadh

Respected Dakshinamoorthi ji

Does Mars in 8th house in an aries ascendant indicate a bad Mangalya? Even

though the planet is in its own house.

Let me know when you get a moment.

Regards,

Pranav

Dear Saman ji,

Dakshina moorthi ji's meaning is perfectly clear and correct.

7th house indicates marriage and sex.

8th house indicates life after marriage.

Mangalya means "the state/condition after marriage".

The string wound around the neck of marriend women is known as

"Mangalya suthra", just for a comparison. :)

Most of the classics advice us to think about the "state/condition

after marriage" with the 8th house, i.e. Mangalya Sthana.

Love,

Sreenadh

4-12 house . Then My reply would be simply yes

rest keeping constant. But We must check Navmansha also in case of 12 th

house. It it not so firm considered. Just a weak dosah.

Thanx for the clarification. One more query: Should we while

matching horoscopes, say that a person who has mars in the 7th house

and the counterparty who has mars in the 2nd, 4th, or 12th house

have compatible horosopes for marriage, assuming all other factors

are matching.
