Guest guest
Namaskar. Is it okay if the bride is a little older than the guy? What do the scriptures say? If there is mental compatibility, is it okay? Should a marriage be rejected on these grounds? Why shouldn't the bride be older than the groom according to Indian traditions? Please clear my doubt. Thank you. Sandhya. Search presents - Jib Jab's 'Second Term'
Guest guest
Namaskar Sandhya ji, Usually, as per basic matrimonial compatibility analysis rules, the bride must be atleast 3-5 years younger than the male. Besides emotional growth etc., one of the reasons is that the life expectancy of the bride musnt be too much longer, after the demise of the groom (assuming that death happens in age wise descending order. In ancient times, the male would work, and provide shelter for the bride. I will let other members contribute their opinions on the significance of the rule. However, at the moment, I am interested in the charts of the bride and groom. Could you kindly provide that info ? I already have the charts of a few couples, where in, the bride is elder to the groom. I am interested in the combos that are usually found when such alliances happen. Please let me know. Thanks, Sesha. --- harsha rao <harsha_rao_333 wrote: > > Dear all, > Namaskar. Is it okay if the bride is a little older > than the guy? What do the scriptures say? Guest guest
Dear Sesha: According to life expectancy....life of females in both eastern and western worlds is longer than male counterparts. So if we go by synchronizing death of natives than brides should be elder to grooms so that they die almost at the same time (of course considering healthy living and normal death). However we see everything contrary to this, in my case my maternal grandmother died 25 yrs after my grandfather and my paternal grandmother is without husband for last 12 yrs. So we see this disparity and still almost everybody (male) wants a younger female. In middle eastern countries ...its not very uncommon to see wife to be 10 yrs younger than husbands. But now we see the trend to be changing slowly specially in western countries were age is not a bar and people wont be surprised if you marry a woman 4 yrs older than you are, obvious drawbacks is timing of children cause not all 30+ woman have easy pregnancy. I would say age difference of upto 3 yrs on either side is not a big issue anymore however with our society standards things still look like it was in back in time. I am sure it will change cause change is the name of time. Regards, Bharat P.S: My wife is older than me and so is my best friends wife and we dont see it as an issue. Guest guest
In the usa, you will find the opposite practice for the reason of different life expectancies. In the US, women live longer than men, so by marrying younger men, they expect companionship for most of their lives. But I agree with Sesha on emotional compatibility. vedic astrology, Sesha Mudumbi <mseshas> wrote: > Namaskar Sandhya ji, > > Usually, as per basic matrimonial compatibility > analysis rules, the bride must be atleast 3-5 years > younger than the male. Guest guest
Chandrasekharji, I think Narada Purana has most of the rules that are followed today. I have not personally read this purana. But, have read some translations here and there in piecemeal. But, the "rules" I mentioned are usually learnt by word of mouth. But, the origin must be from the Narada Purana. Thanks, Sesha. --- Chandrashekhar <chandrashekhar46 wrote: > Dear Shesha, > May I know the rules and the authority that gives > them? > Chandrashekhar. > > Sesha Mudumbi wrote: > > > Namaskar Sandhya ji, > > > > Usually, as per basic matrimonial compatibility > > analysis rules, the bride must be atleast 3-5 > years > > younger than the male. Guest guest
Interestingly, the younger bride-older groom marriage trend is reversing in Japan. The life expectancy for Japanese women is now 85 whereas for men it is 78. In the present situation there are greater numbers of older women available for marriage compared to those in the same age or younger. So it is quite common now to find older women (generally rich) getting married to younger men (sometimes subordinates).
