Guest guest
Allow me an important comment here that NO ONE have brought up earlier in the history of this list (if my memory does not fail me!): Last week I took part in a discussion with several practicing doctors in (Stockholm, Sweden) on the subject of "Time of Birth". There was NO DOUBT WHAT SO EVER that the moment of birth is the moment of "self breezing" as (note this!) the baby's entire supporting system from the mother cease to function right after birth. As proof one can see that there is no flow of any liquid through the umbilical cord right after the baby is out and breezing. Here you all have something to speculate about .... Guest guest
Hare Rama Krishna Dear Jay, This point was discussed on Jagannatha list a couple of times, though was cross posted by Sanjayji once on this list:) In fact, a few moments after the baby takes first breath (many times it coincides with the first cry), the flow of life supporting fluids stop flowing from the mother to the baby, through the umbilical cord. Doctors are also supposed to cut the umbilical cord, after the pulsations in it completly stop, giving a chance for the last few drops to flow through. In the times we live in i.e., in Kali Yuga may be the baby has to announce its arrival - so we take first cry as the time of birth! (Clamping and cutting of the UC is done, quite regularly). Some babies cause anxiety to their parents by being mum for several minutes longer than usual, when the cry is induced. The first cry, first breath & cutting the UC should normally be very close. What do you think? Guest guest
Dear viswanadham, Thanks for your comments, however I did write "(if my memory does not fail me!)" <smile>... I am aware that Sanjay hold the moment of cutting the umbilical cord as the birth time, something that I have difficulty to accept as in many Western countries the baby is placed on the mother's chest (right after birth) for some time (at times several minutes) before the umbilical cord is actually cut. Doctors and delivery personal usually note the time of 1) exit 2) first cry (which is usually within seconds) as the birth time. But again I assume that we have very short time frames here, which can be easily rectifies. Guest guest
Dear Jay, I assume you mean breathing. I have always held that position and a lot of discussion had ,in the past, occurred on what constitutes the moment of birth. I am glad that the Doctors also feel that to be correct position (assuming, by breezing you meant breathing). Chandrashekhar.
