I think you may be referring to "Advanced Principles Of Prediction" by Gayatri

Dev Vasudev. The first chapter talks about what you have mentioned.

 

Its not that badhakesh "theory" is incorrect. Its just that the effect is

superceded by other factors most of the time. Its effect is subtle and requires

lot of analysis and observation in real life to figure out if its really due to

badhakesh or not. Also badhakesh indicates things at a macro level - something

very basic about the person and most of the time interpretation on a day to day

basis might not make sense. Its more likely that bad transits rather than

badhakesh are causing obstructions in your case. 9th lord is almost always

auspicious for any chart.

I read somewhere that the badhakesh obstruction materializes only if it is the

lord of the sign where Gulika is placed or of the 22nd Drekkana. Otherwise this

whole theory of badhakesh is not really correct.Presently I am running the

bhukti of the 9th lord which is the badhakesh of my ascendant (Aq). Things are

hunky-dory and extremely good but once in a while I encounter some obstructions

and I don't know whether it is because of the badhakesh bhukti or because of

By the way, there is an interesting inter-relationship among badhak sthanas for various lagnas.

By nature there are three types of sings i.e. Cardinal, Fixed and Dual. While

11th house is assumed one of the possible maraka and giver of maleficent. Now

for first type of signs i.e. Cardinals (Ar, Cn, Li, Cp) 11th house become

badhaka (obstructor). Now count 11th from 11th which become 9th house, that

arises as badhaka sthana for second type of sings (Ta, Le, Sc, Aq). Now count

from 11th from last 9th which become 7th, that is the badhaka for third type of

sings i.e. dual (Ge, Vi, Sg, Pi).

 

Therefore it can be inferred that badhaka's obstructing effect is subject to

quadruplicity of the related signs. That is for cardinal sing lagnas all the

"fix natured matters of the 11th house" may cause problem. For fixed sigs

lagnas all the "moveable natured matters of the 9th house" may harm and

similarly for dual signs lagnas all the "dual natured matters of the 7th house"

may lead to barriers.
