Guest guest
In my very beginner level knowledge of the Gita, it seems to me that there are several at least superficially different ways to approach God. Of them, Karma Yoga seems to me to be the doing of compassionate action without any regard for returns, Bhakti Yoga seems to be the expression of devotion to God, and Sankhya Yoga seems almost to be the discovery of God through analytical understanding (observation?) of the universe. I have several questions: 1) First, do you Gurus agree with the above assessment? I know that at the deeper level the Gita also says that all paths are essentially the same, so perhaps I am wrong in even recognizing these as somewhat different. 2) Second, if they are in some way different (as they appear to be), I remember that in this group I have heard that if your AK is the same as your Istha Devata you are a Karma Yogi. Are there similar simple patterns in a chart to recognize Bhakti Yoga and even more interestingly, Sankhya Yoga in a chart? If so, what are they? 3) In my simple understanding of the above Yogas, it seems to me that someone like Srila Prabhupada would be a Bhakti Yogi, someone like Mother Teresa would be a Karma Yogi, and perhaps someone like Jiddu Krishnamurti or the Buddha would be a Sankhya Yogi. Is this correct? The chart details of all can be found in the birthdata bank in this newsgroup. It would be nice if someone could show the above mentioned patterns (if they exist) in some of the above charts. Thank you very much in advance, Sundeep
Guest guest
Dear Sandeep, The way I have understood is that karma yoga without expectations purifies our mind. Pure mind attracts knowledge (Sankya Yoga). Knowledge will start to increase devotion (Bhakti yoga). Therefore these three yogas are like three points on a circle. Different people may start at different point. But ultimately when one has experienced all three yogas the person progesses spiritually in to Sadhana and ultimately achieves Moksha. So they are all connected. With Best Regards, Sadashiv. Guest guest
` ¬I— AaiStk< minraj< nmaenm>, Dear Sundeep, Here's the answer to your 2nd question. You will find all of them in Jaimini Maharishi's Upadesa Sutras. > Are there similar > simple patterns in a chart to recognize Bhakti Yoga and even more > interestingly, Sankhya Yoga in a chart? If so, what are they? Mercury in trines especially the 1st/5th makes one a Mimamsika.Mimamsa: Freedom through the Performance of Duty. It means to analyze and understand thoroughly. Mimamsa emphasizes the teachings of Veda in the light of rituals. It provides a philosophical justification for rituals and explains the meanings behind them. Hence, we need to pay attention to Mercury (Vidyakaaraka), who obviously as explained above is a significator of analysis. Jupiter in Swamsa makes a Karma Yogi who will excel in all field due to his own intelligence or one interested in philosophy and religion or priest. The Moon in 1st/5th gives knowledge of Sankhya & Yoga philosophies besides history( Rhetoric & Music) or produces a Singer. Samkhya is a dualistic philosophy that believes in the coexistent and interdependent realities, conscious Purusha and unconscious Prakrti. Samkhya philosophy explains the dynamics of the body and nature of mind. Yoga studies all aspects of human personality and teaches one how to control the modifications of the mind through practice of meditation and detachment and surrender to higher consciousness. Practicality is the main feature of this system. The Sun in 1st5th gives knowledge of Vedas and Bhagavat Gita. The main teachings of Vedanta is that self-realization is the actual goal of life, that the essence of the self is the ever existent consciousness and bliss, the Self is free from all qualifications and limitations, that the self is essentially Brahman, which is the basis of mind and matter. Hope this helps. Warm Regards Narayan
