Dear friends,

Since I do not have anyone else to ask, maybe some

of you know Sanskrit to help with translation of 3

names (I need this for one project regarding

death).

Legend says that Chitragupta, attendant of Lord

Yama have 3 wives. Their names are Prabhavati,

Nilavati and Karnaki.

Does anyone knows if this names have meanings

which can be translated into English? What are

this meanings?

I would be very grateful for any help. (Maybe it

is good idea to send answer directly to me because

this is not directly related to astrology.)

Thanks again.

Best wishes,

Adrian

Dear Adrian,

According to Monier-Williams dictionary,

Prabhavati means to come forth, spring up, arise or roiginate from, appear,

become visible, happen, occur, to be before or surpass.

Nilavati means blackish or bluish.

Karnaki is probably the feminine form of Karnaka which means handle of a

vessel.

I hope this helps.

Yours,
