Reputation works in the fild of maya and shall be better shown by the arudhas in the dasamsa. But when you are talking about skills, knowledge, this is not maya and shall be seen from the houses involved in. 10th house is one of the atha trikona and thus shall have a determining influence on the native's profession. dear Sanjay ji I too have read that mars in 10th in the dasamsa chart gives techmical skills. Mars therein will indicate Martian tendency or influence. Hence it will be something aggressive like Military or something assertive like CEO or in some cases it can be Technical or Surgeons. We should asses other indications of D10 and then decide in which domain the Martian energy will be diverted. The reputation work in the field of maya and hence arudhas are better capable of showing them in a chart. However skills and knowledge etc. are the truth, they are really possesed by the person (at least in this life), there is no perception attach with it. We use special lagnas to see fame, authority etc. About 10th now, among all the artha trikona 10th has the highest importance as this is the place which is directly above the head, i.e., the zenith and the planets placed there in shall determine the job or profession one is in to a larga extent (whether he earns it or not is again a different affair). Skills are better seen in the 3rd house and trines to navamsa lagna, however the profession is shown by the artha trikona in the dasamsa, however income is shown by the 11th from AL in Rasi.. There might be some coincidences, however this might not be the case always. The more the coincidences the more focussed one's professions shall be. The cases which you have suggested didn't show Mars giving a technical or engineering profession, might be because there could be other planets in the artha trikona in the dasamsa. Morever what aspect of Mars is reflected in the profession (Logician, Engineer, Army etc.) can be confirmed from his capabilities from the navamsa chart. Lets say if there is strong influence of Mars on the Lagna in D-1, D-9 and that Mars is placed in the artha trikona, it might show Army Personnel, however if there is influences of Jupiter in the Lagna in D-1 and D-9, he could be a good astrologer, (Influence of Mars can show astrology too, think of Ruchaka Yoga and its indications). >From the converging influences in an horoscope can we properly say what the native's profession is.
