Guest guest
Hello all, Wonderful to be privy to such detailed discussions of Jyotish! Unfortunately for me, I'm a rank newcomer to Jyotish, so much of what you all are discussing goes completely over my head. I am reading "Light on Life", as well as "Astrology of the Seers"... and looking at my own chart rather bewilderedly. Ah well, one must start somewhere, right? I won't bore you with my beginner questions as I think they would interrupt the flow of the list, but I will ask one software question: What software do you all, as experienced Jyotishis, find the most useful? I have downloaded several, and am leaning toward Parashara's light - but Shri Jyoti Star has a lot in its favor. I'm not interested in Goravani's software, just a feeling I get... Thanks for your consideration! Guest guest
Hi Julie, WElcome to the list. Have patience and one day you shall understand everything too . There is no question of boring, we all started as beginners too. While nobodys guranteeing you that all your questions will be answered, anybody who has time will answer....so shoot. My personal favorite is Jagannath Hora Lite by Narasimha Rao, downloadable at www.VedicAstrologer.org, it is FREE. The commercial version will be released in the near future. As far as books are concerned.....there are many ways to start, most westerners feel comfortable with Western Authors, so may be Hart De Fouw's book would be th right place to start for you. Also consider, BVRaman's books. And Vedic Astrology: An Integrated Approach by Narasimha Rao. Okay, I looked at the website, I looked at amazon and a few other places - how exactly can I go about getting Rao's book, and how much will it cost (USD)? What about Fundamentals of Vedic Astrology (a two volume set) by Dr. K.S. Charak? or How to Judge Horoscopes Vol 1&2 BV Raman? Both are available from astroamerica.com... but I have no way of judging which would be the better buy. Ah well, with the internet there is an embarrassment of riches. Guest guest
Dear Julie, you might want to check out Kala VEdic Astrology Software. It is a newer software then Parasharas LIght, etc. BUt it is more user friendly and interactive. It also has extensive yoga searches and since it uses Nasa JPL ephemeris it is also more accurate. You can check it out at www.vedic astrology.net Good luck shopping, Ernst - "Julie Luker" <jbluker <vedic astrology> Wednesday, June 20, 2001 9:18 AM [vedic astrology] Newbie intro + software question > Hello all, > Wonderful to be privy to such detailed discussions of Jyotish! > Unfortunately for me, I'm a rank newcomer to Jyotish, so much of what you > all are discussing goes completely over my head.
