Guest guest
Dear Kanupriya, As far as I remember, the Chandra Ayana Vratha is recommended for Amavasya Dosha. It occurs when the Moon is in a 90 Degree angle from the nodes. I hope others can help you with the details. Guest guest
hamsasso.aham Chandra ayana is a severe prayascitta observed for the period of one month, where the amount of food intake corresponds to the phase of the moon. The vrata starts on a Krishna Pratipada day, when 14 mouthfuls of food are consumed by the observer. On each succeeding day, he reduces his intake by one mouthful until Amavasya when he fasts through the day. On Shukla pratipada, he consumes one mouthful, and on each suceeding day, he increases his intake by one mouthful until Pournima, when he consumes 15 mouthfuls of food. The food intake corresponds to the hourglass like shape that the body of an ant has. Another version is the reverse. On Shukla pratipada, the observer consumes one mouthful of food, and increases it by one mouthful until Pournima when he consumes 15 mouthfuls of food. It then decreases by one mouthful per day until Amavasya, when the observer fasts. There is mention of all sins being expiated by one who observes this for six months, eating only the remants of sacrifices. > > Ajit Krishnan [astro] > Thursday, April 01, 2004 10:45 PM > > RE: [sJC: Achyuta Gurukul] Chandra Ayan Vrat > > What is the purpose/fruit of this vratam supposed to be? > > ajit > > > > > Kanupriya Singh [kanupriya9] > > Thursday, April 01, 2004 12:58 AM > > > > [sJC: Achyuta Gurukul] Chandra Ayan Vrat > > > > Om Gurave Namah > > Dear Gurus, > > Can someone please tell me more about the Chandra ayan vrat? > > When is it observed? Guest guest
::om namo bhagavate väsudeväya:: Dear Ajit, ayana refers to the movement of the moon and other planets in the vertical direction as well and fasting on the date when the moon changes the ayana is also very good for the mind. This happen during transit when the moon touches a node while vrata are also kept when the direction of motion changes from descending to ascending. The satya vrata outlined by you is very very tough and actually it starts with 15 mouthfuls on sukla pratipada to one on pournima. What are the mantras and pooja for the vrata outlined by your priest?
