Mc & Mn usually malefic? RE: Malefics, Benefics

Mc: As I said in an earlier e-mail, Mc is combust by Sn 25% of the time. More

important, Mc is virtually always (say 80% of the time, just to pick a number)

in the same sign as malefic Sn. So, for Mc's disposition, should I ignore Sn's

conjunction, & see OTHER natural malefics conjoining/ planetary aspecting it,

to know whether it is benefic or malefic in a chart? Mn: As per Gurudev's

teaching, Mn is definitely malefic AND weak, in the 60 deg arc each side around

its conjunction with the Sn, ie 1/3th of the time (& elsewhere, he says: from

8th krishna (waning) to 8th shukla (waxing) phase, which is 12/30= 144 deg, out

of 360: I am getting some maths wrong somewhere, or not understood Gurudev

clearly). Anyway, to go on: Next, criteria, like Mc, is its conjunction/

planetary aspects received. Ignoring the Sn & Mn themselves, Given that there

are more natural malefics (St, Ma, Ra, Ke) than benefics (Ve, Jp & a usually

malefic Mc: ref above, or should I ignore Mc's effect on Mn, ref next para?).

So in the balance 1/3rd of the time ALSO, there would be more malefic

influences on Mn vs benefic, most of the time. So Mn (like Mc) would be malefic

in a very large number of charts. And in turn, a largely malefic Mn conjoining/

aspecting Mc....

Well, pending my receiving a philosophical answer to the reason for this from

the Gurus, would someone tell me PRACTICALLY, how they judge the disposition of

Mn & Mc in charts, given the above. Do they stick to the rules, as is, & treat

Mn & Mc to be malefic in a substantially large number of charts? And all this,

is only ref their NATURAL disposition of course. One thing I do understand from

Visti's mail below (pl correct me if I am wrong), that Mc is such a weak

malefic, that even if judged malefic by the above standards, while it may be

malefic for the houses it occupies/ rules/ planetary-aspects, it does NOT make

other planets that it conjoins/ aspects, malefic. Regards Nandan Swee Chan

Dear Visti,

Dear Krishna,

I've tried to answer your questions.

Is exalted Mercury with Saturn always a malefic? Is there any exception to the

rule when Prasara says that Mercury becomes a malefic if conjunct with a

malefic?

Visti: Mercury is easily swayed by others. Mercury is a young student

learning which paths to take in life. In truth Mercury is an inocent boy, but

then someone influences him, and will color his life and actions.

Mercury will not be able to afflict any planet. Actually he is a benefic, but

not very strong and easily pursuaded.

So Mercury with the Moon, who is his true father, will make him excert the

flirtatious and dirty qualities which led to his birth.

Mercury luckily was taken in by Brihaspati, and taught the propper ways.

Mercury Exalted and with Saturn, will make a very determined person and very

direct and strict. Will follow orders, and be very straight-forward, maybe even

wicked.

The statements you’ve made above for Mercury seems rather contrary and befits

the dualistic nature of Gemini. With Mercury exalted in an Earthy sign, will

Mother Earth/Virgo naturally nurture Mercury’s wanton ways? Or will Bhoomi

naturally guide Mercury the correct path/Dharma?

How can Mercury become wicked when he is neutral to Saturn, the 7th lord and

that Saturn of both 6th and 7th does not encroach on his space in the 2nd house

as Saturn is friends with Mercury. Naturally, in the house of passion, this

person’s passionate speech will be somewhat contained; not necessarily lacking

fore thought before speech that is, considering Mercury is always almost too

close to Sun. No?

Further, will the cache come through one’s spouse/Darakaraka with this

placement? Or will A2 and A7 give the more comprehensive details?

I can imagine the wisdom one begets through one’s spouse/Darakaraka with Jupiter

being the 5th lord.

Will this person become the wise jyotish [we all aspire to be] as exalted

Mercury looks at the 8th of the mystical house?

Thanks, Swee
