OHM SHRI RAGAVENDRAYA NAMAH

JAYA JAGANNATHA

Namaste Gauranga and Jyotisha,

I am attaching a zip file, which contains a astronomical programme. After

Gauranga's lesson, this programme will be much helpful for us to understand the

astronomy.

Those who know about the computer very well can play around and make your own

settings. It is a very user friendly programme.

For the benefit of those who have less computer knowledge:

After unzipping, press the set up icon in the unzip folder. After the set up is

over, click the "starcalc" icon and a screen will open. On the screen, you will

see a lot of marks in the map of the globe. We do not need all these

astronomical bodies we need only the planets in solar system. So, go to the

Parameters in the top menu bar and click, then click "Image adjustment tool

bar". Now, a tool bar will appear at the bottom. You can see that 4 tool bar

buttons are pressed. When you bring the mouse over the buttons, you can read

the meaning for those buttons. Now, by pressing those buttons you can activate

or deactivate the view of those objects mentioned there. Leaving the button

which reads "Solar system objects" deactivate all other buttons. Now, the world

map will be clean and will show only 8 planets including Uranus. There is

another simple method, you can select Options in the Parameters and select

Objects and tick only solar system objects.

You can go to Parameters in menu bar and select "Options" and from there you can

select "Location" and in the location you can give the co-ordinates for your

place. After this, the screen will show the planets on the sky above your head.

Now, during night you can see, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.

You can see their movement, by clicking the cycle icon "Auto rotation"

Enjoy the Diwali and learn.

Thanks

Solai Kannan

JAYA JAGANNATHA!

Dear Abhilekh,

Namaste.

Respected Gurujis,

Please find my attempt at Lesson 1 down below. I did have some questions before

I could make an attempt.

Questions/Clarifications:

=================

1. In section 1.1, it is written that there is an imaginary line running around

the Earth in the exact middle that divides the Earth into northern and southern

hemisphere. The difference is visible in the changes of seasons. The question is

how does this alone make the location of a native a determinant factor? And

next, even if we assume that it IS a factor just based on change of seasons,

does it only divide the Earth into TWO parts or more than that? In other words,

what about two people born in the northern hemisphere at the same time in

different locations?

Actually both the longitude and latitude influence the exact structure of the

chart. You can excperiment by giving a certain point it time and a fixed time

xone (which menas that it will be a fixed time in universal time, so the

planets' degrees will be fixed) and try changing the coordinates and see what

happens to the different components of the chart.

2. In section 2.2, the second line is 'It will be either negative if the planet

is above the northern hemisphere or positve in case the planet is above the

eastern hemisphere'. Why northern and eastern? Why not northern and southern? I

would like to request you to make it clearer by diagrams, if possible.

Yes, this was a typo. It should be southern. Could you correct it Solai in th pdf file?

I'm not os expert in computer diagrams, but if someone could help me out on

this, then I would be happy, Candramukha has already sent one which we could

incorporate into the pdf lesson. I have also attached two pictures to this

email.

3. Is the ecliptic or Ravimarga really an ellipse or is it a curved line? or arc of a circle?

It is basically the tilted line that was mentioned by others. The Ayanamsha

makes it a bit more complicated.

4. If possible, could you please provide a diagram to provide an example for the

definition of the celestial latitude. I am unable to visualise it on my own.

Any volunteers for this task? I can easily draw it on a blackboard, but unable

to trick it into the computer.

Yours,
