Dear Vidyadhar,

The rate of Ayanamsa varies between say 49" to 53" per year and the

average rate that is now established is 50.245" per year. Keeping this in

view, the Ayanamsa having an average of around 50" per year are reasonable.

Although for the year of epoch, there is quite a lot of difference.

Dear List Members,

I have a couple of questions on the Yukteswar Ayanamsa. I will be very

obliged

if any of the learned members could kindly enlighten me on this please.

1. The default figure set for the Yukteswar Ayanamsa in Jyotish seems to

be

at an annual precession rate of 53.9906 seconds per year. What is the

rationale behind this figure? Should it not be 54 seconds per year? If the

yuga cycle takes 24,000 years, as described in Shri Yukteswar's book "The

Holy

Science", 360 degrees dived by 24,000 = 54 seconds per year. Also at page

xix

of his book he says the precession was 20-54-36 as on the vernal equinox of

the

year 1893AD. 1893 minus 499 = 1394. 20-54-36 divided by 1394 gives us 54

seconds per year. Why then is the precession rate shown as 53.9906?

2. The default date when the two zodiacs were conjunct is shown as 01 Jan

499

in Jyotish. The year 499 was given by Shri Yukteswar. But why should the

date

be 01 Jan? Should it not be the date of the Vernol Equinox, viz. 14 Apr?

I will be very grateful for any inputs on this please.

Yours humbly

Vidyadhar
