Could someone please tell me the name of a good

beginners book about Vedic astrology?

 

There are a number of beginner books. When I started out I read a few,

and found I learned something from each. Contact JDR Ventures. They sell

all of them.

 

Light on Life by Hart DeFouw

Astrology of the Seers by Frawley

Dr Raman has some beginner books

Other beginner books from India are there, including Dr Charaks

Ronnie Dreyer's ....and a bunch of others exist

Is lagna the same as the ascendant in western ast.?

 

Lagna means Ascendent, yes

 

 

I need to know terminology also.

Are Vedic terms transposable from western terms?

 

Many are the same. We never say "Stellium", but aspects, planets, signs,

houses, all the same. Much is the same, some things are not.

 

 

 

Basically, where do i start??

 

Read beginner books for sure. Learn the basics that way. I have the 3

videos on the basics as well. I think you have the Levacy book right?

That's one of the beginner books. Read that one, and some others.

There is a good book called "Dictionary of Astrology" which is mostly

about Hindu Astrology. JDR has this book. It's from India. That will

help you as a dictionary. It's pretty complete even though its roughly

done, like alot of books from India. Many helpful things in that book.

I've used it alot.

 

 

Do i need to study the B. Gita also?

 

Only if you want to understand the essence of the Hindu philosophy,

which is aligned with Jyotish, yes, and I think everyone should read the

Gita regardless, to strengthen their Spiritual understandings, no matter

what their religion. It's one of the best authentic presentaions of

Spiritual Philosophy in human history, plus, you could call it the Hindu

Bible. There is the translation of the Gita of Bhaktivedanta Swami

online.

It may be easier to buy a copy. Most used bookstores will have

Prabhupada's Gita in stock, as so many were distributed and end up

there...I recently went into a used bookstore here in Eugene and easily

replenished my shelves with Krishna related books.

Hello Jace,

 

To start with Indian Astrology, you should first go for its mathematics part

which includes making horoscopes, divisional charts, dashas, and other important

things which you will need at every step. Try Astronomy and Mathematical

Astrology by Deepak Kapoor for mathematical portion.

 

Also, take Table of Asendants and Ephemeris for the year 2000
