Guest guest Report post Posted June 23, 2000 Namaste (1) For a Leo ascendant Mars is a very auspicious planet, being Raja Yoga Karaka. As ruler of the 9th placed in the 8th, this could bring spiritual/esoteric knowledge and maybe inheritance from father, although father's health and relationship with father may suffer. However, Mars' placement is greatly enhanced by the Sambandha between Mars and Jupiter (Guru Mangala Yoga). Jupiter (karaka for the 9th) in the 2nd (good for wealth) aspects the 9th lord in Jupiter's sign, thus supporting the affairs of the 9th house. (2) The Mahadasha of the 12th lord in his own sign and/or in 6th, 8th or 12th houses is said to be favourable. The effects of the Moon dasha will depend on many factors, however, particularly the brightness of the Moon, associations, and its strength in divisional charts. The dasha period of a planet in the 12th house or of the12th lord could be a good time for focusing on spirituality, meditation and yoga, or for foreign travel and activities. I learned to meditate in Moon/Saturn/Venus - Saturn and Venus are both in my 12th house and Moon is conjunct the 12th lord. Due to the Moon's nature there are likely to be many changes and fluctuations in this dasha. During 1980 to 1990 in my Moon dasha I changed jobs 8 times (Moon is my 10th lord). It would be interesting to hear from others as to their experiences during the Moon dasha, or dasha of the 12th lord. (3) As for marital happiness, the whole charts of the couple must be studied together, in addition to the two Navamshas. This is a very challenging area of Jyotish (for me anyway!). Although Fire with Water may not be an easy combination, the Ascendant is only one factor - since the Cancer ascendant may have Sun and Mars in Aries (very fiery!). Much more important is if one person's Moon is supported by the other's Jupiter. A beneficial Sun/Moon connection is also good, as is Mars/Venus in the same sign. I asked a similar question of James Kelleher several years ago regarding Mars and it's natural malefic state and would this hold true for Cancer and Leo ascendants. His response is that it would not be malefic or cause kuja dosha for those ascendents as it had raja yoga status. (Temporal benefic.) In practice I have not found this to be entirely true, however the causes may be held in the navamsa. I have some additional information regarding Cancer and Leo ascendants, that you may or may not already know. Cancer ascendants' seventh and eighth house are both ruled by saturn, hence unions with partners who may be less than themselves (that is, the Cancer native) - and much change and possible loss and moksha in relationship. One example of this is Tina Turner (Cancer ascendant) and her infamous union with Ike. Interestingly, she walked out of that situation around the age of 40, indicating her movement into the Navamsa, which is also the chart showing life as the years progress. Leo ascendants' sixth and seventh house are both ruled by saturn and again indicates partnering with potential enemies. Again, this can be avoided to some extent if the partner becomes a servant (another sixth house quality) to the other partner.
