I have an extremely active eighth house in both Western and Vedic traditions,

and I've meditated on it pretty seriously since the thing seems bound to kill

me eventually.

The eighth house is the house of Adventure, really; not outward, but Downward

and In; the point of Abyss in transformation, where Angels fear to tread and

the volcano opens its voice and tells you what is what. Eighth house people

aren't scared of much after a certain point in their lives because they've

been scared out of their minds since they were born for every good reasons,

they are tempered with terror and purified by fire.

At the maturity point in life, eighth house people are simply shocked by

nothing. They are not surprised by terrible crime, they are not shocked by

abuse, they accept that an asteroid the size of Asia either will or will not

hit the earth tomorrow because really the nexus of destruction is a part of

life, an intersection that is as clearly marked as any other thing.

I think what it is meant to teach us is to see past the illusion of

annihilation -- to see past, because the eighth house is the house of not

being afraid to look, of wanting to know. The strongest belief a person has

with this Mars is that the Truth will set him free. Mars is a detective, a

warrior, a surgeon, He dives, he attacks, he cuts away, and if you are still

standing, you will. You will know.

I am a thirty five year old mars in Cancer in the Eighth person. Mars in

Cancer in the eighth eerily mirrors my father's death when I was seven; quite

suddenly, he slipped and fell in the shower and broke his neck.

Today at a pet shop I saw seventeen kittens stuffed in a cage, covered with

dirt and crap, with their eyes and noses running from disease. I picked one

ex-fluffy, stinking kitten and brought him in front of the pet shop owner,

while on my palm I could feel how hot his belly was; he was burning up with

fever.

" This animal is going to die, " I told him.

" It's not that bad," he said. " he just needs some eyedrops. "

" Not eyedrops, " I said. " He needs medicine, or he's going to die. Give him

to me, right now, and I'll take him to the emergency vet and get him fixed

up. If he lives, I'll pay you for him. "

" No, " he said, " Fifty dollars right now and if he dies I'll give you

another kitten. "

" No deal, " I said. " Another dying kitten? I'll be back in a week, and if

this little guy is dead then I'm calling the ASPCA to shut you down. "

Then I walked out. I am not sure that the eighth house is a killer in all

cases. I would say though, that at some point it puts you in direct touch

with something so true it changes the way you look at things forever.

I was interested in what you had to say about your 8th house experiences.

Of course it can be an extremely difficult house, but we should not forget

that it is also a house of moksha or enlightenment, which represents the

death of ignorance and death of the ego. So there is a good side to the 8th

house too!

It is the house of the transcendent and samadhi, so meditation should be

excellent for you, and Mars in the 8th could provide the drive and energy

necessary for focusing on meditation and other spiritual practices like yoga

and astrology, which are all domains of the 8th house.

Best wishes

Steve

:). Do not own property, Manoj. I did own a house but I sold it after an

entire wall caught fire.

:). No, I am not kidding.

My father has Mars in the 8th and has owned many vehicles, but has never

owned a home or invested in real estate. In fact, he has lived in motor

homes and other vehicles his entire life, parking them on land owned by

other individuals.

Nodnod, yes, but at the moment I own not a single thing, except a car which I

own with my husband. I don't own any good jewelry, just a single moonstone an

indian astrologer told me to wear for my hopeless moon. I don't have good

clothes or furniture or anything like this -- I'm basically destitute except

for a very good computer and many, many books. So what is the answer, Manoj?

Is mars in the eighth good for property or bad? I would, just using my

intuition, say it was probably better for moveable property? Cars, horses,

possibly ( lol) firearms?

What do you think? It seems sort of appropriate that Kiersten's father lives

in a moving vehicle?

Thanks.

Since we are discussing Mars in 8th I'll put my 2 cents in. I have Mars in

8th conjunct Rahu and have been running the Rahu Mars dasas for years now

and wont finish till many years later. I recently acquired property but it

was by accident since we built an extension room on our house and it went

over into someone else's lot. Hence we had to buy the lot or tear down. It

was been a great strain for me to pay off this mortgage over that last few

years and I've been borderline bankruptcy at times. But wait it gets worse!

Saturn aspects Mars form the 6th. Saturn is the yogakaraka however but still

Saturn. I believe I would be dead or incapacitated now if not for Jupiter

aspecting from the 2nd giving relief plus Mars is lord if the 12th which

vepreet raja yoga. Comments are welcome...

Regards

manvantara

Dear Vox

generally Mars in the 8th will be bad for property .The 8th house is after

all the house of bankruptcy . Sometimes it may refer to inheriting property

.

Hope this helps
