Day Names in a week...

Hi,

 

Does anyone know the significance of Day names in a week "Sunday/

Monday etc...". They seem to be one day per Planet used in Vedic

astrology (excluding Rahu and Ketu)

 

Are these somehow related to planetary movements/positions etc...

with respect to eartth.

 

Also are "RahuKalam" and "Yamagandam" related to North/South Nodal

points that happen to happen at certain times for each day?

 

I appreciate your thoughts.
