Guest guest
Sanjeevani vati has the best effect in both children and grown-ups. the doseage however varies. Lemon-water w/ a touch of honey should be given so as to keep the child/adult hydrated and with salts. If the diarrhoea is severe, you should give in some electrolyte water like electrode mixed in water, or if you are in the US, gatorade (clear) is a great option to hydrate and get fast absorption of essential nutrients so you don't get weak. > Can you let me know what is the best ayurvedic treatment for diarrhoea in children. Guest guest
one the simplest and easiest remedies is roasted carob bean powder, which tastes like chocolate take 1-2 tsp and mix in a 1/4 tsp of typical chai-spice herbs, like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg etc mix well with cooled boiled water and 1 tsp of sugar - i haven't met a kid that hasn't liked this the rest of the diet may consist food like rice gruel (kanji), mixed with a little sea salt kanji is as good or better than the old WHO recipe for dehydration bilva is another very helpful remedy, and for this you can boil the dried fruit with dipanapachana herbs such as ajamoda, and add a little sugar for taste - bilva is very good for the more chronic forms of diarrhea, and very gentle for severe diarrhea, or if the child doesn't respond to the above, i would use stronger remedies such as kutajarishta dose for a 68 kg adult is usually 24 mL, 2-3 times a day or more, and so for you child you will have to adjust the dose based on weight e.g. for a 40 kg child, dose is about 14 mL 24 mL / 68 kg (adult) = x mL / 40 kg (child) 68x kg(mL) = 960 kg(mL) x = 14 best... todd caldecott On 13-Apr-06, at 8:58 AM, ayurveda wrote: > Can you let me know what is the best ayurvedic treatment for diarrhoea > in children. > Vineet Bhatia Caldecott todd www.toddcaldecott.com
Guest guest
For children less than 2 years age, in teething period, give 10 drops lemon juice after adding powder of khadi shakkar (Misri) about 1/4 - 1/2 tsp. Dosage is 4 times a day if possible, else 3 times a day, equal interval in wakeful hours of the baby. If child greater than two years, first find out what kind of loose motions. watery, or like kheer. Color, smell, bubbly, how many times a day, sound when stomach percussion is given etc. Then suitable home remedy can be informed on net. At least thirty different home remedies exist. dr bhate ayurveda, "Vineet" <vineetbhatia_2000 wrote: > Can you let me know what is the best ayurvedic treatment for diarrhoea > in children. Guest guest
First, you have to specify the age of the chield. I can give somce tips Calcaria phos 6x (a biochemic medicine) does help in most cases of chieldrens diarrhoea. If there is dentition related problem, dikemali powder gives very good results. For other reason, the solutions can be different. Give cooked sabudana with jeera and a pinch of salt as frequently as possible. It resolves the problem very fast. You can also use tavkil (araroot) instead. Sabudana can be cooked in a pressure cooker easily. Do not add milk. Guest guest
dear vineet i sent a post on this subject yesterday but for some reason it didn't make it through - does anyone else find the service hit or miss sometimes? i guess i'll have to rewrite it... anyway, there are many, many treatments for diarrhea the most important thing to note is that diarrhea is an important immunological mechanism to rid the body of toxins thus these mechanisms should be supported, not suppressed at the outset of symptoms because it can drive the pathology deeper into the body very often the condition will resolve on its on by eliminating heavy and congesting food articles (e.g. sugar, dairy, flour products, sweets etc), and using food-based therapies such as kanji (rice porridge) cooked with a sea salt; afterwards, digestive agents such as buttermilk cooked with curry leaves, turmeric and ginger eaten with rice to help restore normal digestion are very helpful mastu, the watery portion from dadhi or yogurt, is another helpful remedy to restore digestion during and after diarrhea and is loaded with probiotic organisms that restore the normal ecology of the bowel the most important consideration in diarrhea is of course the risk of dehydration, through the loss of water and electrolytes oral rehydration therapies are thus recommended, such as the world health organization's recipe using water, glucose, potassium and sodium chloride - however, relatively recent research suggests that age-old remedies such as kanji are actually more effective than the WHO recipe, and prevent many of the potential negative effects of the WHO formula, such as hypernatremia (excess blood sodium) one very helpful remedy is roasted carob bean powder, 1-2 tsp mixed with a cup of water and a tsp of sugar this plant is native to the middle east but i am sure would grow very well in most indian locales, but don't know of its use in india, if at all carob bean has a chocolate-like taste, and gently astringes the bowels to reduce the severity and frequency of BMs often i will add herbs such as cinnamon, ginger, cardamon, nutmeg etc, in amounts of about 1/4 tsp to ease any cramping or bowel spasm - kids love this recipe, and there is little issue with compliance if the diarrhea is doesn't respond to these simple interventions, i would suggest stronger acting and more definite remedies: 1. unripe dried bilva fruit - take the dried fruit and boil it in water for 20-30 minutes at a medium heat, adding shulaprashamana (carminative) herbs like ajamoda, cardamon etc, - allow to cool and serve with a little sugar - bilva is one of the best most auspicious remedies for diarrhea, and is very good for the summertime diarrhea that children are susceptible to 2. dadima (pomegranate rind) - similar to bilva, but more astringent, it can be prepared in a similar fashion 3. haritaki - with dill seed, coriander seed and dried ginger root, boiled for at least 30 minutes - although many people think of haritaki as a laxative, when it is boiled it is grahi and is particularly effective for diarrhea and to strengthen digestion 4. kutaja bark - boiled with herbs such as dadima and mustaka to make a strong extract and taken with sugar, or as prepared remedies such as kutaka arishtam - dose for kutaj arishtam for a 63 kg adult is 10-25 mL 2-5 times a day - for children calculate the dose accordingly: 25 mL / 63 kg = x mL / child's weight so for a 15 kg child: 25 mL / 63 kg = x mL / 15 kg 63(x)(kg)(mL) = 375 (mL)(kg) x = 5.9, or basically 6 mL there are many more recipes and herbs besides, which can be added based on symptoms, for e.g. nagakeshara, ushira or chandana when there is bleeding and ulceration, but at this point the parent should be consulting a practitioner best... todd caldecott > Message: 24 > Thu, 13 Apr 2006 08:18:20 -0000 > "Vineet" <vineetbhatia_2000 > diarrhoea in children > > Dear group members, > Can you let me know what is the best ayurvedic treatment for diarrhoea > in children. > > Thanks > > Vineet Bhatia Caldecott todd www.toddcaldecott.com
Guest guest
Dear All, Thanks for your inputs. For all those who desired more information, diarrhoea is associated with abdominal pain. Frequency is around 10 times a day and stools are having mucus but no blood. Undigested food material is also sometimes seen. Stools are fould smelling and followed immediately (upto 15 mins) after food . The child is 2 1/4 yrs old. My regards to all. Vineet

Guest guest
Hello, My 13 month old daughter is having a diarrhoea- dysentery kind of problem for the last 10 days. Initially, it was bad and the doctor prescribed some antibiotics .First 5 days I was giving her boiled rice with salt only (as Todd suggested ) for the whole day. Then she refused to take it and her appetite is very normal, so I started giving her normal food. I am also giving her the misri- lemon juice mix as suggested by Dr. Bhate. My problem is even after 10 days she is still continuing the loose- watery - muddy kind of stool 2-3 times a day, the colour is green and it has a sour smell. Any suggestions? Other than that she is as her usual self.
