Dr Leo Rebello Director Natural Health Centre Kandivili East, Mumbai - 400101 Dear Dr B K Sharma, Namaskar. Thank you very much for your studied criticism (enclosed). I must say that it is because of informed people like you and their views that the road to return to health through holistic methods of healing become more and more murky. You have no concern about the suffering millions and are quite content to let the present faulty method continue despite its proven track record of failures and horrendous side effects. God really laughs when millions of people die and yet the perpretators go unpunished. I fail to understand what modern medicine has achieved despite an yearly allocation of $3.1 trillion all over the world (as per Health Sector Corruption Report 2006). Coupled with that is the effort by the best brains who are reduced to treating disease conditions rather than the patient. Shameful, and a tremendous waste of manpower, resources and money. You rail against Swami Ramdev, yet this naked fakir has achieved what 300 years of modern medicine has failed to do. Please procure the research findings he has published to know for yourself the efficacy of holistic healing. You may also take the trouble of visiting Uttaranchal, India to debate with the Health Officials there. In fact, under the able leadership of Dr Ambumani Ramadoss, Union Health Minister, the golden triangle project involving three premier scientific institutions is compiling the case histories of people cured by Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy so that "nobody will dare to malign the holistic methods anymore", to quote Dr Ramadoss who took personal pains to rebutt the faulty claim of The Lancet magazine that homeopathy was mere "placebo therapy". My mails seem opinionated by you though I do strengthen them with views now being expressed by the media all over the world. This era of information has opened our eyes to the evils of modern medicine, the exorbitant costs and the growing dissatifaction of patients maimed by this method. I myself am one such patient who, at the age of 44 has had to sacrifice everything to this abomination. I hope our Health Minister continues his crusade to put India and Indian medicine & Homeopathy on the world map. Such a move will benefit the whole of humanity and restore sanity. I would request the Minister to kindly ensure that; 1. More budgetary support is accorded to the Dept Of Ayush and the CERC. 2. The courses in our ayurvedic & homeopathic medical colleges reflect classical ayurveda and homeopathic philosophies. 3. Public advertisements are released to counter the attack by the "scientific community" upon holistic healing methods. 4. Courses in schools reflect holistic paradigms of health so that the cause of social & preventive health is furthered. 5. A national directory of holistic practitioners be compiled so that people can know whom to turn to in order to return to good health. 6. More hospitals be set up concentrating on holistic methods. 7. Recruitment of qualified holistic healers to man the primary health centres. 8. Training Panchayats on Naturopathy so that Gandhiji's dream is realised. 9. Compulsory yoga training for school children and PSU staff. 10. Inititating non-practicing learners courses so that parents can take care of minor acute health problems of children and relatives through holistic methods to reduce the health burden on the Government. Regarding the shennanigans of the FDA and the state of the health sector in America you ought to be more informed than me. Yours faithfully, Jagannath Chatterjee & the Alt_Health_India team. "Dr.B.K.Sharma" <Gwalior.Hospital wrote: Dear Mr. Chatarjee, I have seen many of your opiniated mails and this is one additional telling us cure for every thing. You have every right to say what you feel is correct, but to me it appears like rumour mongering. I just happened to see another mail from a colleague titled “when God laughs” which mentions few of the contents of your mail giving an opportunity to the God to laugh. I wonder these statistics and statements related to such claims have ever been proved by any research or retrospective studies as always happens in system of modern medicine. You should be aware of rigorous methods and trials for approval of any drug by FDA. Comparatively where do these methods for cure for every thing stand. Though I am a Paediatric Surgeon and practice only modern medicine and do not claim to know anything about such methods or alternative medicine. However I have an open mind for any such claims and will be interested to do a proper research or study before making any such loud claims or accepting same. Till then at least we should not spread rumours or make such claims. As you may be aware that we are working to help and provide for poor, disabled and destitute through hospitals, hospice, rural clinics, schools and Orphanages at Gwalior in India details on www.helpchildrenofindia.org I have come across similar claims in past as brought by one of our colleague advisor on our board, who happens to be a supporter for alternative medicine like yourself. I have suggested to him for doing a proper study of all such patients as claimed footing the bills for such study or necessary investigations by myself. I have gone to see and meet such patients too personally, who are told having been cured by such means as per such claims, but to my personal experience, all such claims turned out to be baseless and false and I am yet to see a person who got any benefit, leave aside numbers to do a proper research or study. So there we are. With regards and best wishes, BK PS I wonder if it comes to yourself or any of your loved ones (I wish and pray to God that such should not happen), to experiment, whether you will use the standard proved methods for treatment or the one based on such rumours or un proven methods. We have heard of so many Swamis or Saints claiming for all such methods, but I am yet to see one who practices for oneself what they preach for others. Murarji Desai famed for urine therapy, was one of such well known eccentrics as you may remember. Dr.B.K.Sharma, For Gwalior Childrens Hospital Charity (Regd. To that I may add that life is eternal and this intricate human body comes with a guarantee card of 100 years of fault-free service from the finest manufacturer – God. If we suffer unnecessarily and die prematurely, it is because we live unnaturally. Nature Cure is based on instinct and common sense, and hence, cannot fail. It declares that the laws of Nature are immutable and infallible; that sickness is unnecessary and proceeds from violation of the laws of nature; that pain is penalty for wrong doing, a warning against transgression; that the body has an in-built defense mechanism consisting of about 120 billion WBCs in 70 kg man, compliments C1 to C17 (special chemicals which break the walls of bacteria, fungi, etc.), hydrochloric acid in the stomach which kills bacteria and antibodies; that healing is from within and consequently you alone are responsible for your health; that biomedical changes precede disease and toxemia is the principal cause of diseases. Hence, cure cannot be obtained without cleansing or removing the cause; that body, mind and spirit should be treated as a whole, so that the individual learns to regulate his own life and command his own destiny; that in purity lies our power – pure air, water, food, light, environment, thought, purpose and faith.
