gazing at the sun

Bob,

I too am from the west and share your concern. The way I learned "gazing at the

sun" is it is very safe to do 5 minutes before the sun sets and 5 minutes after

the sun rises. The reason for this is that you are looking through much more

atmosphere at these times because of the angle in relation to earth. The

atmosphere acts like a filter. I live in Alaska and I am sure it would be okay

to do this much more in the winter since the sun is very low to the horizon much

of the time especially around solstice.

Before 9:30 am in Northern California I look toward the sun at an angle

of 45 degrees away from it, cover one eye and blink ten times at the 12

o’clock position above the sun, then reverse eyes, and move around to

these positions: 3pm, 6pm 9pm. Then I roll each eye around the sun in a

big circle - about 45 degrees. This seems all right to me, but I

thought I would check with the group regarding the safety of it.

Thank you,

Janaka

I refer you to www.solargazing.com. I have been gazing just before sunset and/or

just after sunrise as much as 13 minutes.
