Guest guest
Dear The work of the doctor will, in the future, be ever more that of an educator, and ever less that of a man who treats ailments. Lord Horder Your post on Nasya, Message No. 2271, you have covered interesting (and mysterious to some extent) subject of Nasya from all angles and made this author remember above quote. The objective of this post is to add some more useful information in case of Nasya directed at brain. Specific point from your post that is picked up here: "some nasya treatments are also specifically targeted to treat the brain and central nervous system, to enhance memory, dispel negative influences, and restore consciousness" In India, every villager knows simple remedy to put a few drops of fresh onion/garlic juice in the nose of a fainted person. In a few minutes he regains consciousness. Certain medicine to treat Jaundice is administered as Nasya, causing dripping of yellowish Pitta through the nose of the patient and slowly the yellowish color of the eyes reduces. The pitta (toxins) accumulated in the liver also slowly get dislodged. There is a connection between liver status and eyes. The cleansing/detoxification actions of brain are immediately carried out by this "black mailor" Nasya in these two cases. The membrane which separates sinuses and brain is so thin that some substances put as Nasya are readily absorbed by brain as easily as Nicotine in Cigarette smoke. The absorption is so quick that any smoker can tell you how quickly he gets `kick' as soon as he takes first `puff'. In fact, there exists a bunch of nadis (nerves) in the front end of the nose (termed "shringatak marma") which absorbs smell information and prana shakti. Of course, these nadis also absorb some toxic chemicals in air/smoke. [One feels the anesthesia when he smells chloroform]. These nadis also absorb certain nutrients and medicinal herbs in the nasya. Nasya is the most effective way of treating the brain, which no other branch of medicine has recognised and used to the extent ayurveda has. Even ayurvedic smoking falls under Nasya, medicum being gaseous. The Aroma therapy completely derives from this "Nasya" extension. For instance, to enhance memory, alertness, grasping capacity, cow ghee is an excellent nasya medium. Some Gaushalas in Maharashtra, India prepare special ghee for Nasya using popular nervine herbs such as Brahmi, Jatamansi, Shankhpushpi, etc. under the universal brandname "Ashtamangal Ghrutam". More details on govigyan.com Those who wish to escape from the addiction of liquor and nicotine can use a special Nasya medicine available at Trimbak, District- Nasik, Maharashtra State, India, distributed by Raghunath Maharaj.
