Vamana's appearance is celebrated on Dvadashi. Usually we fast for half day

on appearance days of various incarnations and acharyas (with exceptions).

So we have to fast half day for Vamana's appearance. We cannot do this on

Dvadashi because we have to break the Ekadashi fast sometime in the morning

on Dvadashi. So we fast for half a day on Ekadashi itself for Vamana's

appearance the next day. This is the rationale behind 'fast today and feast

tomorrow'.
