SAI'S NEWS FROM THE TIME MACHINE: February 25,1912: Madhavrao Deshpande (Shama) left Shirdi to attend Kakasaheb Dixit's thread ceremony at Nagpur and Nanasaheb Chandorkar's son's wedding at Gwalior. February 14, 1914: Mr.B.V.Deo was charged by Baba for stealing His rags and after lot of abusing and scolding was favored with instructions to read Dhyaneswari regularly every day as per Deo's desire. -------------------- 3. SAI PHILOSOPHY: SAI PHILOSOPHY FROM THE DIARY OF SAI.BA.NI.SA. These messages are the outcome and essence of the dream sequences of Saibanisa as given by Lord Sainath, which reflect the Sai Philosophy and his high thinking. They carry a sense of deep meaning and are generally thought provoking, enough to set one's thinking process. Translated and presented by RAGHU RAMAN SATULURY. 181) 22nd August, 1997: Those leading a pure life are the messengers of "GOD" with a firm mission to remove our ignorance. 182) 30th August, 1997: It is not only inhuman but is unpardonable to leave one's family in difficulties and run away. 183) 25th August 1997: The physical body is meant for service of "GOD". Keep it healthy by eating to the extent required. 184) 30th August 1997: Extend helping hand to Orphans and handicapped. When necessity demands, otherwise we are not human beings. 185) 4th September 1997: You can sense and feel the presence of every God in "SHIRDI as SAI is Universal and omnipotent. ------------------------- 4. SAI IN DREAMS: These are the dream sequences and messages as received by SAIBANISA from our beloved GURU LORD SAINATH OF SHIRIDI. In Anticipation that this feature will help in one's spiritual growth are hereby compiled from his personal Diary and presented to SAIBANDHUS. Translated and presented by RAGHU RAMAN SATULURY. Dated: 17-06-1992. My mind was upset as I have not received any communication from my daughter and son-in-law and prayed Sai to take care of them. That night I had the vision of a couple landing on a beautiful Rock with the help of a Parachute. They spent the time merrily over there and finally landed on a green stretch of Land. I was thinking about and recalling the scene when my neighbor Shri.G.Sudharshan Rao informed me of the Telephonic message received for me and conveyed that the Couple after their honeymoon stint has well settled in their place of work. Sai in order to remove the worries from my mind has shown this appropriate scene. Sincere prayer calls are always answered. Dated: 23-06-1992. I was not doing well both physically and mentally. Sai appeared in the form of LAMA whom I happened to visit during my trip to Korea .He advised me to take medicines so that I do not fall sick. Next day morning I consulted our family Doctor and got the medicines prescribed. I could not but recollect the contents of the 28th chapter of Sai Satcharitra where Sai told Lala Lakshmichand to take medicines for his back pain. This has proved the fact that though Sai is not available in his physical form, takes care of his devotees by offering suitable guidance and issuing instructions. Trust me to take care of you no matter how far we are. Dated: 18-08-1992. Sai appeared in the form of an unknown person and advised to look for victory even in defeat. Winning and loosing are the two facets of the same coin. Mr.Robert Swell who contested for the post of the President after having lost the elections is happily settled in his life. Even Sai also took part in a Wrestling competition with Moin-ud-in. He lost and later realized the importance of the underlying winning in a defeat and subsequently changed his style of living by opting for a carefree life and resorted to wearing simple costumes. It is the state of mind that determines the outcome and learn to take the result on an equilibrilium. -------------------------------- 5. SPIRITUAL GEMS FROM SAI SATCHARITRA : "Swamy" svswamy1 1/31/2005 15:35:12 –0000 Sai Ram. We saw how Sai pulled various devotees to His feet, so that they got what they wanted and in that process got spiritually closer to Him. The devotees thus became better vessels to receive Divine Grace in that birth and in their future births. Sai Ram. Now let us take up the main story of this beautiful chapter. Ruttonji of Nanded: "Now let us come to the main story of this Chapter. In Nanded, in the Nizam state, there lived a Parsi mill-contractor and trader, by name Ruttonji Shapurji Wadia." Sai Ram. This name is spelt in another text as Ratanji, which thus gives the meaning of Jewel, ji being a respectful epithet. Thus Ratan means a Jewel or Gem and this is appropriate when we are trying to discuss the spiritual gems from Sai's Satcharitra. "He had amassed a large amount of money and had acquired fields and lands. He had got cattle, horses and conveyances and was very prosperous. To all outward appearances he looked very happy and contented, but inwardly, and really he was not so." Sai Ram. As long as we operate with an ego, however good it may be, we limit our perception and thus can never be fully happy. Only Siva is Supremely Happy (Siva also means one who gives happiness and He gives us happiness just as Sun gives us light). Thus Ratanji (I prefer this spelling) was not fully happy. The reason is given below. "Providential dispensation is such, that no one in this world is completely happy and rich; Ruttonji was no exception to this. He was liberal and charitable, gave food and clothing to the poor and helped all in various ways. The people took him to be a good and happy man, but Ruttonji thought himself miserable as he had no issue, male or female, for a long time." Sai Ram. "Aputrasya Gatir Nasti" is the Sanskrit Sloka, which gives the same meaning. One's progress through the various planes of karma is dependent on the begetting of a male child. This has no relevance to male chauvinism. A father's chromosomes inherited from his father are transmitted to his son and not to his daughter. Thus the absence of a male offspring is directly linked to the evil effects of previous karma. This explains the great pains and sacrifices our ancestors made in the form of performing various penances and rituals (Yagnas etc.) "As Kirtan (singing glories of the Lord) without love or devotion, music or singing without rhythmical accompaniments, Brahmin without the sacred thread, proficiency in all arts without commonsense, pilgrimage without repentance and ornamentation without a necklace, are ugly and useless, so is the house of a man or house-holder without a male issue." This amplified what is given above. Sai Ram. "Ruttonji always brooded on this matter and said in his mind, "Would God be ever pleased to grant me a son?" He thus looked morose, had no relish for his food. Day and night, he was enveloped with anxiety whether he would ever be blessed with a son. He had a great regard for Dasganu Maharaj. He saw him and opened his heart before him. Dasganu advised him to go to Shirdi, take Baba's darshan, fall at His Feet and seek His blessing and pray for issue. Ruttonji liked the idea, and decided to go to Shirdi." Sai Ram. Here we are given a great secret. Whether Dasaratha sought the advice of Vasishtha or Ratanji that of Dasganu, the principle is clear and simple. When we are beset with problems, which we cannot solve, we should seek the help of Sants and Sadhus. Dasganu Maharaj was a great devotee of Sai and it was not a wonder that Ratanji took his advice. After getting advice, one must act on the advice given. "After some days he went to Shirdi, took Baba's darshan and fell at His Feet. Then opening a basket, he took out a beautiful garland of flowers and placed it around Baba's neck and offered Him a basket of fruits." One should not go to Guru, God and Children (in whom God shines much more clearly) with empty hands. One should think of the God indwelling in one's heart as manifesting in an external form as a Guru, God or an innocent child (children are free from ego and are thus excellent channels of Divine Energy). To pay one's respect to such a God is but natural and offering flowers and fruits is a befitting way. Patram, Pushpam, Phalam, Thoyam...Leaf, Flower, Fruit and Water... what ever is offered with devotion, I will accept gladly, Krishna assures Arjuna in Gita. Thus Siva is pleased by Abhishekam with Bilva leaves and water, Vishnu is pleased by worship with Tulasi leaves etc. "With great respect he then sat near Baba, and prayed to Him saying- "Many persons who find themselves in difficult situations come to You, and You relieve them immediately. Hearing this, I have sought anxiously Your Feet; please, therefore, do not disappoint me." Sai Ram. A prardhana should be first preceded by a Stotra to God, Guru. A heartfelt acknowledgement of the Greatness of God/Guru and the helplessness of one's own ego is the requirement for the flow of Divine Grace. A full pot cannot receive any more water. The pot must first be emptied. Similarly the ego should first be cleared of pride, doubt etc. Then and only then will we become fit to receive Divine Grace, which is always ready to bless us but is waiting for the opportune moment. In Ratanji's case, his faithful prayer made him ready. "Sai Baba then asked him for Daksbina of Rs. five which Ruttonji intended to give, but added, that He has already received Rs. 3-14-0 from him, and that he should pay the balance only." Sai Ram. What a masterful stroke? In a short and significant sentence, Sai showed His Sarvajnatva to Ratanji. He showed how He is one with every other Sadhu. This will be made clear in the following paragraphs. We will now take a short break with prayers at His feet and will continue with this nectar of bhakti in the next issue. Sai Ram. Yours truly, SV Swamy -- 6.QUINTESSENCE OF SRI SAIBABA'S PHILOSOPHY: (By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao) "Shashi": shashi_31 15. Baba's method of treating sick persons with His recipes. It was in the healing of sickness that Sri Sai Baba's powers were the most lavishly displayed. In the beginning He used to prescribe various herbs. One day Baba said to his attendant not to bother about herbs anymore, as He wanted to give everyone the same medicine. Then He used to give UDHI to cure all diseases. As it is impossible to explain all of Sri Sai Baba's miraculous cures, a few are mentioned here: Baba used to cure the sick and childless parents. What is noteworthy is that nobody believed that His UDHI would work so wonderfully. a. In 1913 B.V.Bahalkar's son had high fever for six days and the doctor who was treating him said that there was no hope. Bahalkar then sat down and prayed to Sri Sai Baba. At about two in the morning, Baba appeared in his room, applied UDHI on the child and said, "There is no more need to worry". Within two hours the boy got up and began to walk. b. Shyama's uncle had a blind grandfather. In 1916 Shyama took him to Shirdi and led him by hand to Sai Baba. The old man bowed to Baba and said - "Baba, I can't see". Baba asked him `Give Me four rupees'. Shyama went out to change a note and when he came back with four rupees, Sai Baba simply laid His hand on the blind old man's head and his sight was restored. He cried out in wonder and bowed down at Sai's feet. Baba applied UDHI on his forehead and asked him to go. c. Once Baba said to Mahalsapathy "Your wife has a very painful tumor on her neck. I will cure it. No one else will cure it except Me". Mahalsapathy's wife was not at Shirdi at that time and he did not even know she had a tumor. Later he received a letter about it and it was cured by the grace of Sri Sai Baba. The son of Pradhan, a judicial magistrate, fell ill. A priest performed all the ritual worship for the recovery of the boy. He was not a devotee of Sri Sai Baba. He thought that the boy's sickness might be due to not worshipping Sri Sai Baba whom he considered a Muslim. The boy's health was deteriorating day by day. Then he prayed – `If the boy's health improves by four this afternoon, he will agree that Sri Sai Baba is Dattatreya Avatar'. The temperature began to go down and by four in the evening, the boy himself asked his mother to take him downstairs and to let him play ----------------------- 7. DEVOTEES EXPERIENCES: sbshetty57 1/13/2005 16:25:24 +0530 My Experience OM Sai Jaya Jaya SAI In the year 2002, by the blessings of Sai I had the opportunity to visit Shiridi. It was a great joy filled happiness and wonderful feelings. I left Abu Dhabi for annual vacation during April 2002 and wanted to visit Shiridi for Baba's Darshan. One Mr. Soman Our Guru in Abu Dhabi has given one letter to his friend in Shiridi to get some preference in Shiridi. Since it was in April it was very difficult to get the train ticket. My father in law insisted me to cancel or postpone the trip to Shiridi. But what ever is going to happen by his blessings will happen. I managed to get the ticket to Kopargoan from Bangalore but return trip was not confirmed .I had to change the train in Pune and Sholapur. Some how I convinced my father-in-law about the trip and left for Shiridi. It was a nice journey and I attended the shejarathi and entered for Baba's Dharshan on the right side. Thereby I had the chance to look at the photographs of his followers. That time I have decided in my mind that I should get the chance to see the followers photographs on the other side but there was no chance. I came to the room and in night I could not get nice sleep so I decided to go and sit in Dwarakamayi for few hours as my wife was still sleeping in the room. To my surprise when I entered, the queue in Samadhi mandir was very big. So I decided to sit in Dwarakamayi. To my surprise one person came holding two entry permits and enquired me whether I am interested to go inside the mandir. I replied yes, but I have to stand in the queue. Then to my surprise that person told me I have two entry permits to go inside and I will give you one. This time I was able to see the pictures of Baba on the other side and all the things were well managed by Baba I was just a pawn in his hand. Evening time when I went to railway office, suddenly I happened to meet one person. He arranged a confirmed ticket to Pune by Bus. He did the all work and disappeared without asking any service charges. For sure, it is only Baba who can do this kind of things when he is prayed. It is always true " Whenever you call for me, I am there for you". Still I feel he is there in every devotee who believe in him. Sachidananda -------------------------- 8. SAI WITH CHILDREN: http://www.saidarbar.org/HTML/portraits/7.jpg Smt. Madhu Gopal Ravada, Saidarbar, Hyderabad. Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba use to play with children and used to tell stories to them? I felt children visiting Saidarbar should be entertained with good stories. Baba told before He took His Maha Samadhi that He is Muralidhar and would like to play in Booty Wada (Samadhi Mandir) with His devotees. So far you have enjoyed Krishna Leelas. Baba has also established his identity with Lord Sri Rama. Now I will take you through our epic Ramayan. Tell your parents to read the Glory of Shirdi Sai – Bi-weekly E-magazine and narrate Ramayan from this magazine. DEATH OF KING DASHARATHA: Parting from his beloved son Rama was too much for King Dasharatha to bear. His condition was worsening fast. He lay unconscious oblivious of everyone's presence. If he regained consciousness for a moment, he cried "Rama, my son Rama! Where are you?". and then became senseless not finding Rama before his eyes. The royal physician was giving him medicines to keep him in his senses. He regained consciousness again and echoed in his mind the words "I hereby curse you that one day you shall also die in grief of your son, as I am dying." A shiver ran through his whole body. He recalled the incident that occurred long, long ago in his youth. Years ago Dasharatha had gone hunting to the forest. He heard a gurgling sound in the water. Thinking that an animal was drinking water, Dasharatha took aim and cast an arrow guided by sound alone. The arrow hit a young man, Shravan, who had come to the river to fetch water for his blind and thirty parents. When Dasharatha heard the painful cry of a dying man he immediately reached the spot to find a young man, wounded mortally by his arrow dying. The dying man, Shravan, told him that he was the only son of his blind parents, that he was taking them on a pilgrimage, that while passing through the forest his parents felt thirsty, that he had come to fetch water for his thirsty parents. The dying Shravan further told him that his only anxiety and sorrow was who would look after his blind parents. How would they live without him was the anxiety of the dying man. Dasharatha could not save him, he died. Dasharatha took pot full of water and went to the blind parents and sought their pardon for the mistakenly killing of their only son and entreated them to drink water. With an anguished cry the blind parents threw the pot of water. They cried and wept bitterly at the loss of their only son. Then Shravan's father turned to Dasharatha and cried, " O king! You have killed my only son. It does not matter that you killed him unknowingly. You are the killer. It is because of you that I have lost my only son who devotedly looked after us. Now we shall not live without him. You are responsible for the death of three persons. By killing my son, you have killed his blind parents too. As I am suffering for my departed son, you shall also be separated from your dear son, you shall also suffer and cry and weep for your dear son. I hereby curse you that one day you shall also die in grief of your son, as I am dying." Saying this, the old blind man died, and the blind old woman, the mother of Shravan, too died. Dasharatha recalled all this and wept and thought of Rama and Rama alone. At that moment Sumantra entered. Seeing Sumantra alone Dasharatha tried to rise from the bed and asked hopefully, "Where is my Rama? Have you brought him back? Whey does he not come here to me? Sumantra, Speak. Why are you silent?" Sumantra had no courage to speak even a word. He stood silent. Dasharatha, finding Rama not coming in, cried aloud, "Rama, my dear son Rama", and fell dead. A dark and sad cloud prevailed over Ayodhya. King Dasharatha's body was embalmed, and messengers were sent to bring Bharata and shatrugna back. To be continued…. -------------- 9. ARTICLES FROM SAI DEVOTEES: Sankaraiah Dubagunta" sainama MERCIFUL MOTHER SAI " I always think of him who remembers Me, I require no conveyance, carriage, tonga nor train nor aeroplane. I rush and manifest My self to him who lovingly calls Me."(Sri Saibaba) The experience of Shri Jyothi Raja, a portrait artist of Hyderbad has been mentioned in the article on "Sai Sevak Shivanesan Swamiji" (www.saidarbar.org.) Sri Jyothi's First visit to Shirdi was in jan 1990. He accompanied his friends to H.H.Sivanesan Swamiji's room behind Dwarakamai. Swamiji conveyed Baba's instruction to draw his portrait to Jyothi Raja. The artist after preliminary discussion with Samsthan authorities left for Hyderabad to take necessary material required for the purpose. He did not demand money for the work, as the very offer to draw Dwarkamai potrait itself was invaluable. His sister Mrs. Laxmi had a retina problem. Experts in Hyderabad felt it could be controlled but not cured. As the saying goes what cannot be cured must be endured. Mrs. Laxmi told Sri Raja to take to the World famous Shankar Netralaya in Madras as per somebody's suggestion. As for rules a new patient requires prior appointment for consultation. Though well wishers suggested to Sri Raja to seek appointment before taking the patient. But he preferred to take her, as that would give psychological satisfaction. They all left for Madras. Sri Raja prayed to Baba Sai to give him peace of mind for completing the divine job at Shirdi. No doubt he accepted the job as Sai Seva but Lord Sai Nath who does not allow any one to do free service. In His own words "No body should take the labour of others in vain. The worker should be paid his dues promptly and liberally." They went to out patient department of Netralaya (Eye hospital) The clerk wanted them to wait for giving date. Raja asked, "What do you do in case of emergency? ". The clerk directed them to counter for emergency cases. After noting the required particulars the patient was asked to wait outside. Now one Mr. Karpaiah, a ward boy who observed them to the duty doctor. He assisted them to have laboratory test also. He advised them to have their food and assured he would collect the reports. Like this he assisted for three days. Mrs. Mary Abraham, chief of the hospital examined the patient and also reports. She prescribed no medicine, as there was no disease no doubt she endorsed the opinion of Hyderabad doctors based on the reports. All investigations carried in Madras also were correct. The doctor further said "As a true Christian I believe an unknown divine / supreme power had acted on the patient and cured. What is not possible for a human mind is possible for a divine Hand. "Let us note how Sai Nath granted peace of mind to Sri Raja who refused remuneration. Then they went to the ward boy to express their gratitude but he denied having done any service them. He further said it was not possible for him to do all that as per hospital rules. Now it is for devout readers to say who the ward boy was. Needless to say He is Sai Nath our beloved Sadhguru who in the guise of Karpaiah. Assisted our jyothi Raja. Baba does every thing to a devotee who surrenders his or her ego at His feet. OM SAI SRI SAI JAYA JAYA SAI IS SAIBABA MORE ALIVE NOW THAN WHEN HE WAS LIVING? Mrs. Uma Bhat of Bombay narrated this experience in the presence of H.H.Sivanesan Swamyji Shirdi. Mrs. Uma says, "My husband suffered from severe pain on account of stone in the kidney. Doctor who examined him suggested a surgery for removal of the stone. He was not willing for any surgical treatment. He wanted Doctor's Doctor Sainath to take up his case. As if it were Baba's inspiration is started taking real medicine i.e. Parayana of Sri Sai Sathcharithra for seven days and in-taking Udhi mixture. Lo! After the completion of this self-imposed course for seven days. Doctors found no trace of the stone in the kidney." This had happened in the year 1978 i.e. 60 years after Baba's Mahasamadhi. Does this not show Baba is more alive now than He was living?
