2. SAI PHILOSOPHY:

SAI PHILOSOPHY FROM THE DIARY OF SAI.BA.NI.SA.

These messages are the outcome and essence of the

dream sequences of Saibanisa as given by Lord Sainath,

which reflect the Sai Philosophy and his high

thinking. They carry a sense of deep meaning and are

generally thought provoking, enough to set one?s

thinking process.

Translated and presented by RAGHU RAMAN SATULURY

61) 25th August 1996: Even if you do not worship a

person while he is alive at least offer ATMANAMASKARAS

(sincere regards) on his death anniversary. It is

equally of great value as per the tradition passed on

to us from generations.

62) 8th September 1996: Cinemas had started casting

their evil effects even as early as 1918. They are the

basic reasons for decline of moral and ethical values.

63) 8th September 1996: Prior to 1918 parents did not

have to think much for the property and well being of

their children. They fully trusted in "GOD" that they

will be taken care of. And it did happen so.

64) 15th September 1996: To earn your "TRUST" I shall

reveal your "PAST". I am sure with this faith

developed, you will always follow the path shown by me

in future.

65) 28th September 1996: It is not the amount of time

nor the number of times you chant the name of "SAI"

that matters. What matters most is how you lead the

life trusting SAI.

OM SAI

Hyderabad

03 February 1992

Letter - 29 (Chapter 31)

Dear Chakrapani,

Incidents of attaining salvation by some devotees at

Shirdi, through the grace of Sri Sai, are narrated in

this chapter. They are indeed are very fortunate. Even

a wild animal (tiger) achieved salvation in the

presence of Sri Sai. These are the incidents that

occurred at Shirdi in those days. I was witness to Sri

Sai granting salvation to HIS devotee and for me an

embodiment of Sri Sai himself my maternal aunt's

husband Sri Upadhyayula Somayajulu.

I will narrate details of this incident in forthcoming

letters of mine. I will write about those aspects of

this chapter that has impressed me. At the very

beginning of this chapter words said by Bhagawan

(Lord) Krishna have been quoted. These words are -

Those, who remember me at the last moments of their

lives, will attain me (merge in me). Those, who desire

or aspire for something else at the last moments of

their lives, will only get those desires / aspirations

fulfilled in their next life-. How can GOD grant

salvation to those who spend their entire lifetime

pursuing Arishad Vargas (worldly, material and sensual

objects) and end their lives in ignorance of spiritual

matters? Just ponder deeply on this question.

Therefore desire for knowing GOD has got nothing to do

with one's age. An irresistible desire and constant

craving for seeking God is needed. From the day an

individual gets these two aforesaid qualities, GOD

will appear in some form or other in front of him and

lives with him from that day onwards. Sri Sai says in

the episode of recluse Vijayanand - Those who wear

orange coloured robes should not have any attachment

for any animate or inanimate thing-. Hence every

individual who wears orange coloured robes is not

really a recluse. Sri Sai never wore orange coloured

robes but still HE was a great Yogeeswara (God

realized soul). We can see the real characteristics of

a recluse only in Sri Sai.

Sri Sai never asked anything from his devotees but

sought only their Love. He accepted their Love and

used his power for their welfare. We cannot see

another Yogeeswara like Sri Sai in this era of Kali.

All the recluses / swamis living in our midst these

days seek and get offerings in cash or kind from us.

In return they give a well-delivered discourse on

knowledge that is easily available in books. My

personal feeling is that those, who have gained

spiritual knowledge by diligent study of books and

scriptures, need not wear orange coloured robes for

imparting that knowledge to others. It is possible

that these views of mine may be shared by great many.

It is not prudent to write in greater detail on this

subject. Sri Sai made the recluse Vijayanand read Rama

Vijayam, during the last days of his life and granted

salvation to him after his death. When I prayed to Sri

Sai for granting salvation to my maternal aunt's

husband Sri Upadhyayula Pereswara Somayajulu, who was

Sri Sai and who bore the expenditure on my education

and boarding, at the time of his death Sri Sai made me

recite the mantra Raja Ram in his ear. Sri Somayajulu

uncle breathed his last uttering that mantra along

with me. Sri Sai showered his special Love on Sri

Balaram Mankar. Sri Sai, whilst physically being

present at Shirdi, gave HIS divine vision to Sri

Mankar at Machindragad and proved that HE is

omnipresent. Sri Mankar was to travel by train to

Bandra, and was unable to procure a ticket for his

journey (as the booking window / counter was

overcrowded with passengers). At that time Sri Sai

appeared in the form of a villager in front of Sri

Mankar gave him a ticket for the journey to Bandra and

disappeared in the crowd. Sri Balaram Mankar was

indeed very fortunate as he breathed his last breath

in the presence of Sri Sai. When we inculcate

unflinching faith, devotion and love for Sri Sai, HE

will appear in front of us in some form or other and

save us. I will write more on this aspect in my

forthcoming letters with reference to context.

Now let us consider Tatyasaheb Noolkar episode in this

chapter. He was a great devotee who tested Baba.

Normally we come across many incidents in which GOD

tests his devotees. But Noolkar took a stand that

unless his two wishes are fulfilled he will not accept

Sri Sai as GOD realized soul and go to Shirdi for HIS

darshan (vision). Sri Sai fulfilled both the wishes of

Noolkar and made HIS devotee come to Shirdi. After

passing away of Sri Noolkar Sri Sai says -Alas Tatya

has departed before us and he has no rebirth.

Tatyasaheb Noolkar was thus fortunate to receive

salvation. Coming to Megha, he is an unforgettable

character from Sri Sai Sathcharitra. Megha, eventhough

unlettered and uneducated, developed unflinching

devotion, faith and love for Sri Sai and passed away

in that state. A very rare occasion it was for people

to see Sri Sai, who had never shed tears, shedding

tears and weeping at Megha's death and personally

supervising the last rites for Megha's body. Sri

Hemadri Pant says - Those who prostrate at any saint's

feet and breathe their last breath will be liberated

and saved. I do not know what Sri Sai has in store for

me. You will come to know my fortune when the time

comes.

In service of Sri Sai,

Your father

5. SAIBANISA'S THOUGHTS ON GRUHASTHASRAMA :

http://www.saidarbar.org/discourses/2b.jpg

Sri Shirdi Saibaba practiced celibacy through out his

life. BABA advocated his devotees to follow the

traditions of family life in order to achieve social

harmony. This alone will help in building a healthy

society and usher alround happiness in one's life.

Baba wanted his devotees to fulfill their moral and

social obligations called for in the materialistic

World and then to work towards the ultimate i.e.

reaching the God. Incidentally a major portion of

Baba's devotees are from those who follow

'Gruhasthasrama' without any hindrance. Saibanisa

Gopala Rao Ravada has read a number of Books and

literature on this particular topic by different

authors and desires to put his ideas before you all.

Hence an attempt is made to high light his

observations on this subject, aptly titled as '

Saibanisa's thoughts on Gruhasthasrama'. We earnestly

hope that our readership will appreciate and encourage

our efforts.

7. SPIRITUAL GEMS FROM SAI SATCHARITRA

"SV.SWAMY" svswamy1 &

swamyswarna

2 Mar 2004 09:27:54 -0000

Sai Ram. Let us continue with the study of Chapter 10

and enjoy the beauty of the spiritual gems that come

up from the depths of the ocean of Sai. We saw how

Baba generated curiosity in the minds of His devotees,

by allowing them a peep into the spiritual realms,

where tremendous powers ruled. He also showed through

example that any power should be under our control and

not the other way around. ?Baba had all the eight

Siddhis (powers) at His command. He never practiced

nor craved for them. They came to Him naturally, as a

result of His perfection.? That is the secret of

Satvik Siddhis. Sagun Manifestation of Brahman."Though

Sai Baba looked like a man, three cubits and a half in

length, still He dwelt in the hearts of all."

Sai Ram. He dwelt in the hearts of all. That is the

meaning of Spirit. And that is what the ?Narayana

Suktam? or ?Matra Pushpa? , the offering of prayers, a

Vedic Hymn, proclaimed. He is there in the hearts of

all, as the Chaitanyam or spark. ?Inwardly, he was

unattached and indifferent, but outwardly, He longed

for public welfare. Inwardly most disinterested, He

looked outwardly full of desires, for the sake of His

devotees. Inwardly an abode of peace, he looked

outwardly restless. Inwardly He had the state of

Brahman, outwardly He acted like a devil.?

Sai Ram. Hemadpant is trying to describe the state of

opposites, duality and then show that Sai is beyond

the opposites. All the arguments about the nature of

Brahman are futile. Like a coin has two sides,

Brahman, too manifests as Nirgun and Sagun. Nirgun is

so abstract a concept that ordinary Sadhakas like us

can?t really appreciate it let alone use it. Like no

amount of philosophy is useful to a man to fill the

stomach when he is hungry. At that time, food is what

is needed. Similarly when a man is ill, medicine is

needed. But when man is continually troubled by the

disease of delusion, delusion that he is separate from

the rest of the people, Brahma Jnan is needed to

remove the delusion. In almost all the Vedic Hymns,

this duality is recognized and respected. And all the

prayers, rituals etc., are designed to help the person

deal with the daily needs. Performing of one?s karma

or duty is the first step. Expecting a reward is

natural. However, slowly but steadily a stage is

reached where the faith of the person is built to a

stage where he or she no longer expects a reward for

the action performed and starts really offering the

fruits of the actions at the Feet of Narayana, the

Supreme. ?Inwardly He loved Adwaita (union or monism),

outwardly He got entangled with the world.? Whether it

is Siva, Adi Sankara or Ramana or Sai, all great

Jnanis, and fully liberated souls, their enlightenment

did not mean that they detached themselves from the

day-to-day worldly activities. It just meant that they

did what was needed to be done without any expectation

of a personal reward. ?He always uttered 'Allah Malik'

(God the real owner)? ?

Sai Ram. Not surprisingly, this is the same message

that is also given in the first Upanishad, Isa

Upansihad, about which we have a beautiful story in

one of the later chapters. Since the whole world or

Universe is pervaded by Isa, Lord, there is nothing

that is not owned by Him. Allah Malik is the cryptic

remark of Sai to remind us that the Lord owns

everything. One principle which envelopes the whole

universe, (from a stone pillar to Brahma) incarnated

in Sai Baba. The really meritorious and fortunate

people got this treasure-trove in their hands, while

those people who not knowing the real worth of Sai

Baba took or take Him to be a man, a mere human being,

were and are indeed miserable.?

Sai Ram. This is the most important recurring theme.

SAI is not limited to a specific form, shape or

location. All the stories, miracles etc., that He

showed, had just one purpose, viz., to inculcate the

sense of unity in diversity in the devotees, whose

thinking is so conditioned by duality that only

extraordinary events, which could not be explained by

known laws of science, could shock them into breaking

out of those thought patterns, which have a great grip

on them and thus bind them. It is the mind which binds

and it is the same mind that is exposed to radically

new concepts that breaks out of the previous thought

patterns and is now free. Whether it is Rama, Krishna,

Sai or Siva, those who worship a Deity with the idea

that This Deity is different from the other Deity and

is more powerful, etc., and is thus to be preferred to

be worshipped are exhibiting a form of ignorance

difficult to beat. Whether it is the conflict between

Hindus and Muslims , or between Vaishnavites and

Saivites earlier, society always suffered from these

artificial divisions. Sai came to Shirdi with the sole

aim of uniting these divisive fragments. To show us

the forest built of the trees. To show the unity in

the diversity. To show us the unifying principle. Sai

Ram.

8. QUINTESSENCE OF SRI SAIBABA'S PHILOSOPHY:

(By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao)

"Shashi": shashi_31

11. If you meditate on Me with full concentration,

your mind dissolves into unity. The difference between

you and Me will be lost. This results in

BRAHMA-SAMARASATA.

12. Lust, Anger, Delusion, Pride and Jealousy are all

delusive. They will make the unreal appear as real. If

a rich man wears a gold ornament, the poor man gets

jealous due to his Lobha. So you must conquer these

six sense enemies. Waves of passion will go, if these

six enemies are conquered.

13. Whoever or whatever creature comes to you do not

drive away, but receive with due consideration. Give

food to the hungry, water to the thirsty and clothes

to the naked. Then God will be pleased. Do not bark at

people. Speak only gentle words. This is the only way

to happiness.

14. I have been considering for long and have been

thinking day and night, all are thieves, but we have

to deal with them. I prayed to God night and day for

-their improvement. But He does not approve of My

attitude and grant the prayer.

15. I don?t want any material gifts. But I want only

Faith (Shraddha) and Patience (Saburi).

16. People are degenerating. People mostly think ill

and talk ill of others. But I do not retaliate. I do

not care to listen to such talk. People become more

and more skeptical. They are disposed to look more at

the evil side of things.

17. One should not stay in any place, where saints are

ill-spoken of.

18. Come to My mosque and read Guru Charitra.

19. Do not read any book. By reading these books

people think that they will find God in these books,

and they find Brahma in them. It is enough if you keep

Me in your heart and make your heart harmonize with

the head.

20. Your body is full of desires, which spring as soon

as a sense object approaches. When you go to a temple,

you will see the God within. When you are seeing the

God?s image, you will not care of the outside beauty

of the temple. Does God remain only in temples? Is He

not found in every object in the world?

To be continued?

2/20/2004 10:28:15 -0800

Kiran Buddi : kiranbuddi

Devotee Experience for "Glory of Shirdi Sai"

Newsletter

Om Sairam,

Shri Sachidananda Sadguru Sainath Maharaja Ki Jai, My

humble pranams to saibhandhus, I am sharing a

experience of mine and I am ever indebted to my Deva

for giving me this opportunity. It was on Thursday

Feb 19th I completed the Satcharitra Parayan and I was

wondering if Baba could bless me with his miracles. He

indeed listened to my prayers and answered few

questions I had asked Sayin maharaja. Baba was

certainly not happy in few things which he scolded me

and as any other Sai devotee as I have taken these as

his blessings. But If I repeat my mistake again and

again, would sayin maharaj come to me rescue? As a

discipline I have to honor my Deva's dictum and no

excuses what so ever. I justified my actions with a

devotee R. B Purandhare, who loved Baba very dearly.

Purandhare wanted Baba to have royal paraphernalia and

so he along with Radhakrishanyi acquired Silver

Palanquin (not the one that is now used), which was

later, moved to storage room after some silver

ornaments were stolen off it. The devotees felt that

the lockable shed was required and the job entailed

boring holes into the side of mosque. Purandhare

started drilling holes when Baba was out at Lendi,

villagers fled the scene knowing that this will invite

Baba's wrath. Predictably, Once Baba's returned, he

flew into rage and continued raining down abuse on

Purandhare. Purandhare was very stubborn and would not

leave until the job is finished without pausing for

the food. Baba later commented to Dixit that since

Purandhare has not eaten, Baba was feeling the pangs

of hunger. Purandhare was listening to all this and

later when Baba send somebody for him, he came running

to Baba, fell at Baba's feet and wept. This was a

scene of reconciliation - Baba, scolding and consoling

and Purandhare overwhelmed by Baba's love for him.

Needless to say my love and devotion to Baba are no

where close to that of Purandhare but every time Baba

said something I behaved stubbornly and invited his

wrath. Easy to say Purandhare didn't heed to Baba but

was my love, faith, devotion and dedication anywhere

close to Purandhare? Am I not a fool to justify

Purandhare's action with mine, saying he didn't heed

Baba advise but Purandhare is a surrendered and

blessed soul of Baba. With my stubborn attitude I

caused my Deva lot of hardship and pain. Poor Baba,

has to take all this for the sake of his devotees.

Baba's love for his devotees is beyond our imagination

and his scolding are blessings! But I would like to

urge a word of caution, Guru's order has to be adhered

without any intellectual reasoning or knowledge. O

Samartha Sadguru Sainatha ever shower your grace on us

and take mercy on the poor souls! We ignorant children

have caused lot of troubles and you have to suffer

because of our actions. Deva, I beg for your

forgiveness and take pity on this ignorant soul and

let this soul be dedicated for your service at the

lotus feet of yours. Jai Sairam.

11. SAI WITH CHILDREN:

Smt. MadhuGopal Ravada, Saidarbar, Hyderabad.

Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba use

to play with children and used to tell stories to

them? I felt children visiting Saidarbar should be

entertained with good stories. I have told you 24

stories during the year 2003. Baba told before He took

His Maha Samadhi that He is Muralidhar and would like

to play in Booty Wada (Samadhi Mandir) with His

devotees. So I will start Krishna Leelas with effect

from this first issue of New Year 2004. I Wish you all

A Happy New New_year 2004. Study well and learn good

manners. Tell your parents to read the Glory of Shirdi

Sai - Fortnightly E-magazine and narrate Krishna

Leelas from this magazine.

GOKUL:

Gokul was a small village on the banks of Yamuna.

It was situated on the opposite side of Mathura. Gokul

was mostly inhabited by cowherds whose life style was

very simple. Nand was the chief of the Yadava clan.

The entire village was ecstatic on hearing the news

that a son had been born to Nand and Yashoda. The news

spread fast. It was an occasion for the entire village

to celebrate. Each home was decorated. Colorful

rangoli was done at every doorstep. Flowers and

auspicious leaves of mango were hung on the doorways.

Both men and women put on their best clothes and

carried sweets and gifts to the Nand?s palace to bless

the child.

The atmosphere was one of joy and excitement.

Everywhere people could be heard singing beautiful and

devotional songs. Even the animals could understand

that it was a great celebration and some great soul

had arrived amidst them.

Nand distributed sweets, clothes, ornaments, paddy and

grains in charity to whoever came to his palace. Cows

were gifted to Brahmins as they recited vedic hymns.

Meanwhile, Yashoda was busy taking care of the dark

beauty. His face was so attractive that she was lost

in thoughts. Only Nand knew that the baby was the

eighth son of Devaki and Vasudev. Yashoda was happy

and unaware that she had given birth to a female

child. She felt proud whenever she looked at the

infant Krishna lying by her side.

One by one the cowherds and gopis came and blessed the

child. While men talked to Nand, the females

surrounded Yashoda and talked to her. Beautiful

Krishna charmed one and all. Some praised his

twinkling eyes, while some praised his dark curls. To

some his dimples were irresistible. They all wanted to

cuddle the baby. And the women were envious of Yashoda

to have given birth to such a beautiful baby in the

world whose graces looked divine. The young children

wanted to play with little Krishna. The gopis sang and

danced in the welcome of Krishna. Since the baby boy

was dark complexioned it was agreed by all that he be

called Krishna.

The Lord Himself has settled the nature of His worship

for every age.Chanting of His Holy name is the

prescribed sadhana for the present age. This is the age

of sins sorrows, natural and man made calamities.

Jealousy and Hatred dominate the human mind.Sri

Raghava Chaitanya, author of the book Divine Name has

mentioned the following facts useful to everyone.

1.The Holy Name is the Divine medicine to save us from

the chronic disease of worldliness.

2.The Divine Name is the most powerful remedy for

delivering one from the sinister influences of

infatuation and ignorance.

3.Taking recourse to constant chanting of the Divine

Name one becomes eligible for the grace of the ALord.

4.The Divine medicine strikes at the very root of a

terrible suffering of this repeated cycle of birth and

death.

5.The Holy Name is not a mere composition of Sanskrit

alphabets,It is pregnant with many mystic

potentialities. It attracts the Utterer and the Hearer.

This Divine Nama is the only wealth that multiplies

when stolen.

6.When the dying Ajamil by unintentionally uttering

the Name of Sri Hari while calling his son by His

name, could attain Vaikunta Dham, how much more

beneficial would the result be if the Name itself is

chanted with Implicit faith.

7.The glory of the Divine Name lies beyond the scope

of Human intelligence and arguments.

8.If one believes in God, he must necessarily believe

the word of God as well. Mere lip service either to

the Lord or His Saying i.e. the Sastras, would not

serve the real purpose."

Meaning of Shraddha & Saburi

Shri Sai Baba of Shirdi descended on the earth to lead

mankind to the realm of eternity. As the divine mother

He gave his immense love and as the divine father He

gave direction to our search for truth. His mission

was to make people conscious of their divine nature.

The people who follow His teachings and preaching are

indeed blessed souls. The cardinal principles of Sai

Path are 'Shraddha' and 'Saburi'. Sai Baba explicitly

asked for these two qualities in His devotees by

giving his self-experiential instance that his

'Murshid' or Master asked from him only two pice - one

Shraddha and other the Saburi.

Shraddha : 'Shraddha' in a Sanskrit word, which has no

equivalent in English, at best it can be understood

as, faith with love and reverence. Such faith or trust

is generated out of conviction, which may not be the

result of any rational belief or intellectual wisdom,

but a spiritual inspiration. Baba sowed the seeds of

spiritual inspiration in the hearts of people who knew

of him. This Divine inspiration was so instant and

profound that they automatically took refuge in Him.

Baba reiterated that steadfast love in God as the

gateway to eternity. He used the instance of mother

tortoise to illustrate this point. The mother -

tortoise may be on the other side of the river,

whereas her children are on the far side. She does

not transfer food and water to her children by way of

her loving glances. Yet, her loving looks are enough

to protect the children. Similarly, people who

lovingly look at God get His reciprocity. God's looks

offer peace, protection and prosperity for His

children. Baba's teaching, both direct and indirect

explicate the significance of 'Shraddha'. Baba

reiterates the spiritual guidance of Shri Krishna to

Arjun - "Who-so ever offer to Me with love or

devotion, a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, that

offering of pure love is readily accepted by Me".

Saburi: 'Saburi'; is patience and perseverance.

Saburi is a quality needed throughout the path to

reach the goal. This quality must be ingrained in a

seeker from day one, least he looses his stride and

leaves the path half way. As a hunter waits patiently

and motionlessly for his target a devotee too has to

wait patiently for attaining his goal. There are many

trying situations in life. A test may come in the

form of frustration, distress, agony, illness,

mishaps, prolonged wait or a loss. In such moments we

should seek support from the Master and hold on him.
