Sairam

++++

Dear Reader,

Loving Sairam from the H2H Team.

The Akhanda Bhajan (continuous bhajans for 24 hrs) which started on 12th evening

is on today. Swami today tells us how to sing bhajans.

Sai Inspires - 13th November 2005

While doing bhajans, you may sing various songs with different tunes and beats,

but your mind should be constantly fixed on the Atma (self). All your actions

must be done with the sole purpose to please God. Arjuna asked Lord Krishna how

he could fight in the war if he had to constantly think of God. Krishna replied,

"O simpleton! It is your body and senses that are involved in the warfare. Such

being the case, you can always focus the mind on God." Direct your mind on God

instead of on the senses.

- Divine Discourse, 22nd February, 2001.

Flowers To Offer God

Loving Sai Ram and greetings from Prashanti Nilayam. In the Gita, the Lord says

that He is happy to receive even a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, as an

offering from the devotee. Yes that is true, but that does not mean we must

take the Lord’s observation in a literal sense. What the Lord is saying

is that in terms of worldly objects, we do not have to offer expensive items to

the Lord; rather, what He wants from us is a feeling of Pure Love for Him, along

with the physical entity that is being offered.

Swami has shed more light on this business of offerings made to the Lord. He

says, when man offers flowers to God he is merely offering to God what God has

created. May be the man grew the flowers or bought them in a shop; even so,

from God the flowers came and to God they are offered back. Why not, asks

Swami, man offer to God some other types of flowers? Like what? Bhagavan Baba

has the answer ready. He says the flowers that God would really like to be

offered are:

* Ahimsa, the flower of Non-violence, * Indriya Nigraha, the flower of Sense

Control,* Kshama, the flower of Patience and Forbearance,* Sarva Bhoota Daya,

the flower of Compassion to all beings,* Shanti, the flower of Peace,* Tapas,

the flower of Penance,* Dhyana, the flower of Contemplation of the Lord,*

Sathya, the flower of Truth.

This is the list of eight special flowers as given by Swami. To this, we might

add Krithangyatha or the flower of gratitude to God as the ninth flower. It

would be very humbling to take just a minute off every day to recall how many

things we have to be grateful to God for. If we did that exercise every single

day, we would march ahead so swiftly on the Spiritual Path.

Wishing you all the best and see you again next week. Jai Sai Ram.
