Chanting Akal when someones dies

For how long should I chant 'Akal' when someone dies? My nan has just

passed.

 

I'd be grateful if anyone can share what they know about the process

of dying and how the soul journeys out of the body through ethers?

You only need to chant Akaaal five times although you can do it more.

Sometimes I do it a couple of days in a row.
