Hi,

Does anyone have any idea where one can find

Kadukkai (in Tamil)/Harra (In Hindi)/

Haritaki (in Sanskrit )/ Ink-nut (Common Name)

powder in US? Kadukkai is widely used in Indian

herbal medicine.

Thanks,

Gai

Sat Nam Gayathri:

I am sorry I do not have any suggetions for where you might get any of the items

you mention. However, could you tell us what they are useful for? So, perhaps

after you find out where they can also be found (from someone else), we can all

know a little more of their use?

Thanks

Sat nam,

www.bazaarofindia.com ‹they sell haritaki‹also triphala ( which is a mixture

of haritaki, bibitaki, and amalaki)--they sell tons of ayurvedic supplies

like books, groceries, health products etc...check it out!!! you can

purchase on line-they send right away and they are very inexpensive compared

to many other ayurvedic suppliers‹ www.bazaarofindia.com is the best!!!

Ps. Look under raw bulk herbs for haritaki‹the herbs are listed

alphabetically---

Thanks very much, Dharma, for the info.

Lyn, I know only a few of the uses, but there are

many. It is very good for cleansing, basically.

My mother used to make a potion by adding a couple

of spoons of this powder in water and boiling it

for a while to reduce the contents by half. This

was used in treating stomach pains and such.

I drink a glass of water with a pinch of salt,

a pinch of turmeric, and a pinch of kadukkai powder

in the morning on an empty stomach.

THe kadukkai powder is slightly bitter, but a couple

of

pinches in a glass of water is of very mild taste.

A paste is made with Kadukkai powder and

buttermilk/yogurt, and is used for treating

mouth ulcers, boils and such ( this paste has a

capacity to reduce excess heat ). THe paste is

applied on the problem area, left to dry for a

few minutes, and then washed.

One can also apply the paste to the scalp and leave

it on for a few minutes, and then wash the hair.

It is very good for treating dandruff, and does not

leave the scalp dry after washing.

Actually, the kadukkai+yogurt paste could be

quite helpful in treating the blepharitis

problem ( which someone had talked about a while

ago).
