Black Salt - Secrets Revealed

The Hindi name for Black Salt is "Kala Namak". It is also called rock salt

and "sanchal" or "sanchar". It is mined as large blocks of crystal and is

actually a tan colour rather than black. It has a sulphuric flavour and

can be bought in powder or crystal format. It is very popular in India,

especially among Sikh/Panjabi people.

My Yoga teachers (Jack Boulton and John More) in England used to prepare a

"21 herbs & spices" masala, based on instructions from my grand-teacher

Swami Dev Murti Ji of India. There is also a special 7 herb "bitter" tea

formulation for use in cleansing and purification courses.

A delicious masala can be prepared by mixing equal quantities of the

following in powdered form:

Kala Namak - Black Salt.

Kala Mirch - Black Pepper.

Kala Jeera (or Jira) - Black Cumin.

Sprinkle about half a teaspoon of the mixture on your main meal. It is

also tasty on some types of fruit (eg apple, orange, grapefruit).

It has very good health benefits.

Bhavin.

Satnam ji's,

The Indian stores around my neightbourhood don't do shipping but my sister

said that she orders bulk black beans from Namaste.com. You can also get

black salt and mustard oil which they use to cook the beans to give it a

great flavor.

Enjoy

sir khalsa.
