Dear Sriman Balaji,

AzhwArs and other AchAryas have explained what different features of His

ThirumEni symbolize. I am not able to write since I too dont know.

For example, He wields weapons only to assure us that He is ready to protect us

always without delay, as Bhattar says:

pAtu: praNata rakshAyAm vilambam asahanniva

sadA panchAyudhI bibhrat sana: SrIranganAyaka:

in SrIrangarAja stavam.

Also He reclines on the serpent only to assure us He is contemplating on ways to

uplift us.

Someone may please add as to why He is lotus-eyed.

Dear Sriman Vishnu,

Swethadwipa is situated in the

material universe. Kshirodakasayee vishnu , who is

paramathma within our heart and incharge of Sathwik

guna is residing in the swethadwipa within this

Universe. Vaikuntha is not within this world . this

world is totally material. In the end of this material

world Viraja river or the causal ocean is there.

Beyond this the spiritual world is situated. Krishna

says there is no need of sun moon or electricity

there. From the body of Narayana the effulgance

spread through out the universe from which the the sun

in the material world gets light. This light is called

Brahma jyothi. If a pure bhaktha dies his atma travels

with the material ego, intelligence and mind till it

reaches viraja river. then the subtle body takes bath

in this river the atma get rid of this subtle body

and gets spiritual body suitable to go to

Vaikuntha. This i heard from Acharyas and scriptures.

Dear Sri Vishnu,

This world is full of miseries. We are

suffering from three fold miseries. they are

Adyatmika, aadiDeivika and Aadhi bouthika. suffering

from our own body, mind ect which is called

Adyatmika. Then suffering from others like animals,

insects and people connected with us (AAdhi boudhika)

and suffering from calamities like earthquake, flood,

famine etc(Aadhideivika). With all these miseries

around are we able to think of Him always? sometimes

we even forgot that He is there in our heart. But it is

difficult to concentrate on Paramatma within our

heart.

Thats why for constant thinking of him we

go to temples or worship Him at home in the Pictures

or vigraha.Every one of us should try to go to the

spiritual world where there is no birth, death, oldage

and disease. There is only bliss there. we are

servants to the Lord and He is our master. So we can

do devotional service to Him there without any

hindrance. We came here because we disobeyed him and

wanted to lord over material nature with our little

independence..Like a kind father He always wants us to

come there.Thats why He never leaves us, and having

compassion on us He comes and sits in our heart

always guiding us.If we go there We can see him eye to

eye and also talk with him and also do service to Him

according to our standard of level of bhakthi. We

wont have any miseries only happiness there.and once

we go there we will never come back to this mmaterial

world. and suffer.but If one wants to go there he has

to cultivate certain methods in the path of

devotional service here.

Dear Vishnu,

I started laughing when I read your post. If you don't

want to come, you stay in this bhUlOkam itself and I will send you

mails from srI vaikuNTam and give you updates about what's happening

how people respond)? If it is the latter part, then surely I would

like to respond to your post too.

Swamin,

To censure is okay and even my Lord does that But to be honest I would like to

hear what our people answer to this qurrey of why i should aim of Srivaikunta?

Adiyen thinks, I need not go to srivaikuntam, but remain as his fellow devotee

whom krisna says he follows and rejoices in. Acc to our aacharyas, we have to

strive to become Nityasuri's and not aim for the swarga, naraka srivaikunta or

anyother

place where we have a seperate life than the Emperuman.

Dear Ms Nappinnai,

According to Indian movies, all other worlds are equally computerized

and the style of functioning of people there changed a lot!

Coming to my question, let us refer to "ErAr muyal vittukkAkkaippin

pOvadhE...", "emmA vIdum vENdA endhanakku un thALiNaiyE ammA!..." etc.

We can safely forget the paramapadham and keep worshipping the image

of the omni-present. Also it is only SEshatvam that is desired and

not our getting elevated. Since "vazhuvilA adimai" is not possible

here for whatever reasons, our longing to go to a place where it is

possible, is justified. Since we keep having happiness and sorrow

here, the idea of a place where there is only happiness, gives

confidence.

I request any of you to explain as to why hare and crow are chosen,

in "ErAr muyalvittu..."

Dear Smt Vedavalli,

What is the sanskrit equivalent to devotional service? (again refer to

Bhagavadgita As It Is)

Dear Sri Vishnu,

As for as i understand, Devotion is

called Bhakthi.Actions that are done with pure

bhakthi, which are connected With the Supreme Person

alone, is called devotional service.

Yes , we have to cultivate or practice

pure bhakthi., Bhakthi is always there within our

heart. Due to our Karmas, and material desires, and

because of Maya we dont develop our bhakthi. And for

Pure devotion we should have surrendering mentality to

Him and receive His mercy also. If we take one step

towards Him He will take two steps towards us.That is

Perumal's Greatness. Without His mercy it is difficult

Swamin,

Bhakti, as a tool of worship is embodied in our azhwars and acharyas.

Take this pasuram,

Pachai ma malai pol meni, pavazhya vaai kamala chen kann

......

Ichvai thavira yaan poi indira lokam aalum, ahchuvai perinum venden.

That is the level to which our ahzhwars loved the emperuman.

I am sorry. I am neither knowledgeable nor teasing anyone. As my

AchArya reiterates: "Youngsters should discuss, analyze", I am trying

to move with that spirit. Also the opinions given in the list are

based on my own understanding.

Sri:

Srimathe Ramanujaya nama:

Dear Vishnu,

I was joking. I am not that keen about srI vaikuNTam for

couple of reasons. I don't find paravAsudEvan as handsome as the

azhagiya maNavALan in bhujanga shayanam. If there is only happiness,

will it not be boring? Only in the pain/separation, love blossoms to

its fullest I guess! Even if i am in some remote corner of this

material world, the thought of srI ranganATha on the serpent bed

brings me a smile and makes me wonder about Him. He is happily

enjoying His nidra instead of doing yOgam. That's why He is taking

such a long time to catch us! We have so many varieties of perumAL

in different postures which we wouldn't find in srI vaikuNTam. So,

bhUlOkam is better than paramapadam in this aspect. I could be wrong

(but it's my personal feeling)but I found dull nammAzhvAr's pAsurams

on srI vaikuNTam journey compared with pAsurams like "kangulum

pagalum" which is full of intoxicating love.

Dear Smt Vedvalli,

Thank you very much for the reply.

Yes, Bhakti is not mere devotion but devotional service, as

interpreted by SrIla prabhupAda in Bhagavadgita As It Is. I was very

much excited when the AchArya (though not in our line) says that

KrshNa Bhakti is service to KrshNa, at one point. What a wonderful

observation?

KrshNa Bhakti or service to KrshNa, can be practised by anyone

irrespective of caste, gender, race, whether upAya or not.

Now let us strike the word Bhakti at its roots.

Words like Bhakti, Bhajanam etc. come from the dhAtu "Bhak"

indicating division. Division here means, being useful to PerumAL in

different ways as willed by Him, as said in "SarIra bhEdai: tava

SEshatAm gatai:" statement of yAmuna, which I explained earlier.

Since perumAL is sarva SEshI, entire world remains for Him. Does this

mean all have Bhakti? No. Bhakti involves the knowledge that we

remain for Him in all our states. Hence Bhakti is nothing but our

SEshatva buddhi.

Due to our SEshatva gnAnam, we tend to be serviceable to Him.

Needless to say that such tendency is associated with our love for

Him.

Since we tend to do loving service to Him due to our SEshatva gnAnam,

SrI ParASara Bhattar, in the beginning of SrI sahasranAma commentary,

interprets Bhakti as our inclination to do sEvA to Him associated

with our love for Him. He quotes pramANas from linga and mArkaNdEya

purANas for this (see note at end).

Hence the interpreation you hesitated to give i.e. Bhakti =

devotional service, is wonderfully right.

As I have been saying, SEshatvam is nothing but simply remaining for

Him. Hence the nava vidha Bhakti you have mentioned, is our existence

for Him in all those nine different states.

You are further right in saying that any activity done with pure

devotion, is a service to Him.

dAsan

Vishnu

Note: I do not know whether linga, mArkaNdEya purANas are sAttvika.

But nothing stops AchAryas like pArASara Bhattar from extracting

Bhagavad Vishayam from wherever they want.

There have been a lot of good discussions going on in this group. Adiyen's

adiyen now with the permission of all the learned bhagavatas write about the

"Nava vidha sambhanda" as mentioned by Pillai lokacharya.

9) bhOkthru- bhOkya (one who enjoys-that which gives enjoyment)

It has been shown that all these relationships are shown by the thirumanthram by
