Chandra & Soorya GrahaNam /Jpaam , Bathing & TarpaNam

Dear Devotees :

 

A question was asked by a devotee about the procedures

to be followed during the GrahaNams . Let me summarize them

for the groups as known to me . Please add anything that needs

to be added .In all final observances , the sishtAchAram of Your

family as instructed by oyur AchAryAs take precedence .

 

There are two categories of anushtAthAs ( observers) :

 

1.Those who do not need to perform TarpaNam .

2.Those who have to perform TarpaNam .

 

There are also slightly different procedures for

Chandra and Soorya GrahaNams .

 

Chandra GrahaNam

An hour before the onset of GrahaNam , please recite

the Veda Manthram (2 Rks) from Navagraha Manthrams

10 or 28 or 108 times. When the GrahaNam starts , the Gaayathri

and/or ashtAkshara Japam should be performed . TarpaNam is

done after GrahaNam . Those who TarpaNam bathe before TarpaNam .

 

Soorya GrahaNam

Prior to GrahaNam , the Aadhithya Manthram from the Navagraha

Rk is to be recited for 10 or 28 or 108 Times. At the start of

the GrahaNam , bath has to be taken .TarpaNam commences thereafter.

Manthra Japam of choice follows for both kinds of anushtAthAs.

At the end of the GrahaNam , once again SnAnam has to be performed .

There are thus 2 snAnams for Soorya GrahaNam .

 

The Sankalpam for the Chandra GrahaNa Kaala TarpaNam

-----SOmOparAga PuNya kaalE SOmOparAga SrArddham tila

tarpaNa roopENa adhya karishyE .

 

Rest of the TarpaNam is standard.

 

The Sanklapam for the Soorya GrahaNa Kaala TarpaNam

tarpaNa roopENa ahya karishyE

 

With Standeard UpasTAnam and YathAsTAnam ,

the TarpaNam concludes.
