Hello all,

I have just created a mail alias on my machine called "bhakti",

which forwards mail to a few people who I think are interested

in discussing items relevant to Sri Vaishnavism, Alvars, and our

Acharyas. To send mail to all the people on the list, just

address your note to bhakti.

Currently, 5 people are on the list. I'll list each of you below,

but I think it would be nice if each of you could send a short

note out on the list introducing yourselves to each other.

Here are the 5:

P. Dileepan mfpd

Sudarshan Iyengar siyengar

Krishna Kalale krishna

Mani Varadarajan mani

Vaidehi Venkatakrishnan vv

If you know of anyone who would like to be added, please let me

know. Similarly, if any of you want to be taken off the list,

please contact me and I'll do so.

I was wondering what to name the alias; given our religious

tradition, maybe "prapatti" would have been a better name?

Yours,

Mani

hello there,

Let me introduce myself. I work in NYNEX in New York, (White Plains).

I have been communicating with sudarshan and Mani for couple of years now.

I have met Mani. but have not met sudarshan or any one else in the group.

the discussions on email have been quite fruitful. they definitely open up

new ways of thinking and reinforcing the concepts of our philosophical system.

We recently had a nice discussion on doctrine of "Aprthak Siddhi".

Sincerely,

Krishna Kalale

Mani,

good job regarding the "bhakthi" group. by the way you never sent email in

reply to the

last mail I wrote regarding the aprthaksiddhi doctrine.

recently I heard one more corroboration by NS Anantharangachar regarding

aprthak siddhi doctrine. this does mean one cannot be without the other

but still the dependence is on paramatma - because of "satyatva" or

"God is Nirupaadhika sattaa" - Un conditionally existent". this aspect makes

the aprthak siddhi doctrine sort of one sided even though jeeva and jada

are indestructible... they will never go away. so says the sruthis.

Krishna

Hi,

Not knowing the discussion upto this point, I would like to suggest that this

would be a good time to start a discussion on what has been said about

Dvaita, Advaita andV Vishishtadvaita. Except in concept, I do not have enough

material to quote or refer to. I would though at a later time.

Bhakthi seems like a very nice venture, thanks Mani for initiating it.

Hello Bhaktas and Prapannas,

The setting up of such a mailing list is a good beginning

for discussing and enjoying the philosophy and enduring lifes of

our acharyas. Good job Mani!

It has been about 8-1/2 years since I arrived in this country.

Currently, I am working at Motorola in their Microprcessor design group

in Austin Texas. I have been keenly interested in the study of

Visistadvaita and my chance "meeting" with Krishna & Mani on the

The Internet, has only accelerated that interest.

Several discussions with Mani & Krishna have been very valuable in

developing an appropriate understanding of our philosophy and it's

application to daily life. Even though one needs guidance from a guru

for indulging in any spiritual upliftment, the discussions themselves

have provided an awakening to the richness of our philosophical heritage.

The element that strikes me most, in Sri Ramamuja's philosophy seems

to be the crystallisation of the abstract concepts of the upanisads into

daily activity. The Wholesome-ness of the approach provides a rich

and enduring tapestry to the spiritual quest. Intellect & Intuition seem

to be part & parcel of the approach.

Mere intellectual debate is insuffcient to arouse the deep rooted

passion & attachment that the jiva inherently possesses for the Lord.

The nearness (upasana = upa+sameepe) created by Saranaagati is matchless

in it's quality to "totally-uplift".(Provided, it's done with maha-vishvaasa)

Unconditional surrrender seems to be the climax of intellectual effort.

Re: The discussion of Aprathak-siddhi : I have the entire discussion but

it is over 800 lines and I think it will be difficult to read in one

sitting.

Why don't we just start fresh with newer questions

(same topic or a different one:- whatever is suitable to the group).

glad to be on the list,

regards

-sudarshan
