Pranam to Ambaa devotees

This time I have a question regarding the Rudra Chandi parayana :

1. What is the text for parayana and where it can be found ?

2. What is the moola mantra ?

3. What is the parayana krama ?

4. Where (which region of India ) is it widely practised ?

Rudrachandi is not a variety of Saptashati or complete Chandi Patha

in itself. It is basically a supplement to the actual Saptashati Chandi

Stava. It is actually seen in many Tantra texts. I am aware of eight such

versions of Rudra Chandi. As the name suggests, it is from Rudrayamala

Tantra. If i recollect right, it is also in Damara Tantra, Vajreshwari

Samhita (A Madhumati School text), Durga Kramoddeepana (A chapter said to be

from Jayadrathayamala). It is also listed in many of the later Mantra

manuals. It actually consists of some divine Names (Namavali) of Bhagavati

Durga Parameshwari. As for the corresponding Moola Mantra, Rudrayamala

itself gives out this particular hymn under the Navarna Krama itself. But i

have seen a Rudra Chandi Mantra listed in some book. I am not able ot

recollect it's name. In a book called Durga Saptashati KramoddhAra (said to

be a work of Purnananda Yati, the author of the incomparable work -

Kamakalavilasa), a popular book in Bengal (Published by Kaula society Chandi

if i am correct), there are some Angas mentioned for Saptashati. These are

to be found in various other Tantras and Smriti. They would be:

1. Kavachargalakilaka trayam

2. Devyupanishad

3. Durga AshTottara NAmAvaLiH

4. ChanDikA mUla mantra stavaraja

5. jwAlA kAtyAyanI pa~njara

6. durgA shatuHShaShThi yoginI vidhiH

7. ShapoddhAra, utkIlana, Dipana, utthApana for the thirteen chapers

seperately.

8. arthAnusandhAna for navarNa

These are a few major things I remember. There are some

uttarangas also mentioned like:

1. MarkaNdeya kR^ita durgA saptashatI samkshipta stava

2. laghu saptashatI

3. SaptashatI dalam

4. siddha kunjikA

5. ChaNDikA hR^idayaM

6. chaNDikA AvaraNa sahasrAksharI

7. chaNDikA shApoddhAra stavaM

8. chanDi gurumaNDala tarpaNam

9. kulakumArikA stava, Kavacha

10. Rudra chaNdI

11. asHTadhyAyI chaNDI

12. kshipra chaNDI etc.

So, it is clearly seen that Rudra Chandi Patha is supplementary

to Saptashati. The Phalasruti for one of the versions is said to be

amplification of the Phala obtained from Saptashati. This is very widely

done in Kashmir. It is said in ChInAchara tantra that when vasishta went to

Kashmir, he was welcomed by Siddhas who were ever busy singing Rudra Chandi.

It was from Pandit Sri Ramprakash Jha, a famous occultist and a disciple of

Lakshman Joo Maharaj that i received this for the first time. So it would

not be wrong to note the association of Kashmirachara with this hymn.

I request the learned members to enlighten us more on this powerful

hymn.

regards,

harsha ramamurthy.
