I plan on attending David Swenson's workshop at

the Yoga Shala in San Francisco in September. I've

never attended one of his workshops. Since I've only

been practicing Ashtanga for about seven months, I'm

hoping I haven't bit off more than I can handle. I'd be

interested in anyone's comments if they've attended one of

his workshops. Also, if you know anything about the

studio, that would also be appreciated.

Thanks.<br><br>Namaste

I know nothing of the studio you mention, but I

did attend one of Swenson's workshops last November

and he was great. Attendees ranged fromm complete

novice to folks who were proficient at primary series,

and there was something in it for everyone (maybe a

bit more for the less experienced folks). His sense

of humor and stories from his past (if you can get

him to share some) really spice up a

weekend.<br><br>Hope this helps.<br><br>Peace and Good,<br><br>Homer

I've attended his workshop in Philadelphia that

he gives each year for the past two years and loved

it.<br>He is inspiring to say the least and his enthusiasm

is contagious. You will not be dissapointed. If you

have been practicing for seven months already much of

the information he will give will be familiar to you.

Consider the workshop as a tune-up session and you will be

surprised to see how much your practice will improve. Have

a great time!<br><br><br>namaste

Alan,<br><br>Your comments on Ashtanga in

continental Europe struck a chord with me. I too am British

but have lived in Brussels for nearly thirty years.

We have two excellent teachers here - but it would

be nice to attend workshops by visiting teachers

too.<br><br>How did you hear about the Swenson workshop? Is there

a mailing list? Perhaps we should exchange info on

yoga events over here as the club seems to have a very

heavy US bias.<br><br>You might like to check out my

teacher's website - he also does residential courses in

France and India (in

French).<br><br><a href=http://users.skynet.be/ashtanga.yoga/

Alan, did you attend Swenson's workshop last weekend? If so, was it beneficial?

Please let me know when you get a moment.<br><br>M

Well, I went to David Swenson's workshop in

Vienna a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed it - not sure if

I learned much entirely new stuff about how to do

asanas & vinyasas, but then I have David's new book and

a lot of the technical stuff he covered in the

workshop is in there too. It was great fun though - David

is a really nice guy, a good teacher and a great

storyteller. <br><br>He really seems like an example in his

life and his teaching of how yoga can be both

transforming and a laugh, provided you don't take it all too

seriously. A couple of quotes that sum up his attitude - (in

imitation David Williams accent) "if you feel like you've

been dragged behind a truck after your practice, you

must be doing somethinmg wrong!" and (to a

photographer who was there to get pics for the studio) "this

will make a great photo - you can get people to do

ANYTHING in a yoga class!"<br><br>The workshop fee was

quite expensive, but David certainly packs a lot of

teaching hours into the weekend. I did feel like I'd been

dragged behind a truck, a bit, but I suspect the five

hours I spent sitting on the train home afterwards were

partly to blame for that.

Hi,<br>I practiced Astanga for almost two years

before I began practicing Aikido. Now being a full time

student I have no time for Astanga. <br>Is David Swenson

teaching this September in San Francisco? Are there still

open slots for registration? Do you live in San

Francisco?

David Swenson's S.F. workshop is at the Yoga

Shala Sept. 8-11. I don't live in S.F., but I ran

across this workshop which was listed on Swenson's web

site. Contact Yoga Shala to see if there is still room.

Their web address is www.yogashala.com. Since it's

still a few months away, you may be in luck (although

I've heard his workshops fill up fast). He's also

doing a teacher's training in Vancouver, B.C. if you're

on this side of the country and are interested in

that, plus I think there are more U.S. dates. S.F. was

just close to where I live, which is Washington state.

Sorry, I don't remember Swenson's web address, but I'm

sure it's easy to find. Let me know if you end up

going. <br><br>Namaste<br><br>M
