I remember posting this sometime back. During Amma's last visit

to

KL, Malaysia.

"Did you go to see Amma?"

"Yes I did"

"What time did you go?"

"almost 12 mn"

"What time did you managed to see Amma and what is your number"

"My number is 20000 ++ and we [ me and my friends ] see Amma at 4.30

am"

"wow! Only 4 hrs. How did you do that? My friend and his mother from

Ipoh waited for almost 10 hrs and their number is 11000 ++ and they

managed only to get her blessings at 9.30 am the next morning"

"you know what, listen ….. apparently numbers from 1000 till

4000, I heard have gone missing. They said taken by the volunteers.

But the volunteers are being told that they will get the blessings

from Amma herself at the end of it. So one of the volunteers gave

me the numbers. "

"I See"

"But you know what I am not happy about. I gave her the garland, and

immediately her "assistance" remove the garland , bring it to the

other side of the stage and there I saw them selling the other

garlands for RM50/-. Even in the temple they would never have done

this. The flowers we offered to the deity are often given in return

to others devotees as prasadam."'

[ Mind ] Mental Arithmetic triggered on.: hmmmmmm one garland Rm50/-

.. Sitting there for about 3 hrs, I observe out of every 10 who comes

to seek her blessings, 7-8 would offer her a garland. …….. "

"You know I am told, the last token number issued is 55 000 ++

"

[ Mind ] Really ………. 55 0000 people seeks her blessings.

Hmmmmmmm okay make a round figure , lets say 70% of the 55 0000

brings garland and being sold at Rm50/ ……. Ah! The Souvenior Magazine

to commemorate Amma's visit to Malaysia, let take a look at it. How

much does it cost ? Rm 25/- hmmmmmm look at the advertisers . Come

on Calculate ! hmmmmm all are major companies. They should easily

cover the production cost. …………. Suddenly an echo from

somewhere:

Ah! Never mind lah… for charity marked up the price people will

definitely buy…. For charity! For charity! From personal

experience,

the actual production cost of this magazine would be Rm 2.00 per

book. Well depend on the quantity you see. The more you print the

lower the cost. Hmmmmmm 2.00 per book and sold at Rm25/- For

charity! For charity ! people will definitely buy …. The echos

continues. ……..Recall that night …. While you walk back

home… what do you see …. Amma's Cup…. How much they sell? Don't

know, I didn't check. …… hmmmmm Amma's T-Shirt…. How much? Not

sure. Lets say standard market value about Rm 20- 30 per T-Shirt.

Hmmmmm .. What else? The Autobiography of Amma. ….. hmmmmmm The

LalithaSahasranama

….

What else did you see ! A lot but I cant recall right now.

For charity! For charity! Ah! Never mind lah… for charity marked

up

the price people will definitely buy…

[ Mind ] Recalling a conversation with the friend from Ipoh. Did you

get something to eat for your mother. They offered free food up

there….. I did Akak and its not free. I have to pay. …. Well

yes you pay for the drinks, because its from the hotel, hmmm Rm 2/-

per small cup of coffee. But Food is free. Did you go to the counter

which label : Free Food? I did Akak I went there and they told me I

have to pay Rm2/ per packet of food. But the notice said : Free

Food! Hmmmm

[ Mind ] Recalling another conversation. Happy to be able to see her

at last! Yes Akak! Even though 10 hrs? Yes! Mission Accomplish! Yes!

I am happy for you then. Hmmmmm another scene flash back : But you

know what I am not happy about…..' Ironic isn't it …. One

leave feeling happy after 10 hrs of waiting and another with a lot

of unhappiness who waited for only 4 hrs. Both able to get her

blessings.

And what about me ? Nothing…. What am I trying to say

here……. Nothingtoo. Just feel like writing and sharing what I see

and hear. …. Infront of me right now a Picture of Her Holiness Mata

Amritanandamayi Devi smiling back at me.

Mary Ann comments then when I posted that message "Money makes

the world go round / makes Amma go round the world. How else can she

hug the multitudes, buy women and children out of prostitution, and

educate them and others in her schools, as well as build homes for

them?

Mary Ann message no 17909 got my attention : For example, in 2003,

when I first went to see Amma, I got a major leg cramp while

watching Amma give darshan. I asked if there were any bodyworkers

there to help me. "No, Amma is against that!" Last year and this

year, they were calling for bodyworkers and massage therapists to

donate their skills for the attendees in order

to generate donations, and for the helpers (who were under stress

during the tour).

My private conversation with a senior member of this group, and I

like to share with all:

"My criticism is directly to the people who managing her

organization that is all. As I personally feel, they are

commercializing her to an extend, I see it as abuse not only to her

but to the public. There is such thing as greed in charity"

"Yes I agree on that"

"I understand the need to raise fund but using at expense of the

generosity of the public, that is greed"

"Like Mary Ann pointed out before its not okay to massage the

leg,

but when they see money to be made on there, it becomes okay. The

most dangerous is feeding greed via charity. I just feel the moral

obligation to highlight this issue, Once I'm done, I will rest

the issue. Is that okay?"

"Yes it is OK if your mind says its OK"

I have said what there is need to be said, and will close this

topic here as promise.

Hello,

One should never ask money or collect improperly this is henious crime.

Now they may say for charity but as time goes greed takes over.

Asking money is like begging, Beggers cant be choosers.

I too will close this after this post as Kochuji requested. But I

must post this.

While I agree that a lot of money is probably made in Amma's

programs, it is not necessarily a bad thing. I don't understand the

implied equation at all. I have reasonable knowledge to believe that

it is all used as wisely as possible.

Anyway, try and do this.

1. Sleep only 1-2 hrs a day for the rest of your life, and devote

the rest of the 22-23 hours working to help others (of course, NO

SALARY will be provided or should be expected).

2. Promise to donate Rs 100 crores for the next disaster, just

because you were moved by the suffering, not knowing where the money

will come from to finance the pledge.

3. Promise to renovate 3 villages after an earthquake destroys them,

under pretty much the same conditions as above.

4. Feed 10000 people, 3 times a day till the disaster-struck

villagers can be given a house that you are building. Also provide

them with medication, clothing, basic supplies and alternative

accomodation at no charge to them. You may want to think of their

future livelihood also while you are at it. Perhaps you can expect a

smile of gratitude as the price of the service.

5. Create old-age homes and AIDS hospices for folks who are not

cared for by anybody else in this world.

6. Create orphanages, and take the time and the patience to teach

these unfortunate, often undisciplin-able kids basic living skills,

and also some of the most sacred teachings like the Bhagavad Gita,

and manage a reasonable amount of success rate.

7. On normal days (non-disaster days), inspire people across the

world to feed needy people atleast once a month, more if possible,

all the while leading by example.

8. Create 50,000 houses for widows and destitutes and give it to

them free.

9. Insist on giving these widows a monthly pension for the rest of

their life.

10. Create a forum of sponsored lawyers so that they can provide

legal assistance to thousands of poor people.

11. Conduct free marriages for orphaned people who could otherwise

have never afforded the usually-considered basic necessity called

family life.

12. Do all this will sitting in a chair 18-20 hrs a day and

listening to people's problems and consoling them using techniques

that can put master counsellors to shame. Don't hug them if you

don't feel like; just listen to them one-by-one for the length of

the time without a bladder break or food, without getting tired, and

you must listen to the last person also as if you were just starting

the session. Let's say that your diabetes is very advanced,

something like sugar level near 300. (we all know that diabetes

folks have to have food or liquid every 3-4 hours to stop them from

getting dizzy and critical). When you are done, get up and walk as

if you are taking a leisurely stroll in the garden, or dance to a

nice bhajan! Stop to talk to people AGAIN on your way out.

13. In the meantime also remember to tell minute things to a person

X, in 2004, such as, this is the first time X did not come to meet

you in Dallas since 1991.

14. Use money for activities with an overhead of less than 5%,

unlike Red Cross where more than 90% of the money goes to cover

administrative expenses.

Try and do atleast 1/100 of all this and more with voluntary

donations only, i.e., no offering services to others and making

money to accomplish the above. :).

If anyone can do it or is already doing it, then I will add that

honorable one to my list of emulat-able gurus!

Now maybe someone other than myself recognizes a connection between

Amma and Deepak Chopra. BTW like anywhere else, it is necessary to

pay attention when shopping. For example, you can buy a necklace for

$5 and receive darshan and have Amma bless it for you, or you can

receive darshan, and then go buy a necklace Amma has blessed that

costs $65 or more. Hel-lo!!! And of course, you do not have to buy

anything at all.

At this year's visit by Amma to Los Angeles, I went to a public

weekday evening as a volunteer and I worked a flower table. I also

had the exact same feelings/thoughts as Nora is expressing when I

first learned that those flowers were going back and forth between

the stage and the table, purchased and given over and over again. I

learned of that in 2003 or 2004, and I felt sad and kind of ripped

off that my hard-earned cash and my care in purchasing and giving

weren't properly respected by the immediate taking of what I gave

and sending it back into that loop. The night I worked the flower

table this year, however, I truly felt like I experienced the flow

of money and the flow of love to be connected, and that to remove

the flowers or other items from that flow was to take them out of

circulation in a way that diminished their power/value to humanity.

I feel it is possible to move into that flow, to be in harmony with

it/not be apart from it; I feel abundance on all levels is the fruit

of this. This is essentially the crux of Deepak Chopra's teachings

about abundance - teachings which certainly did not originate with

Dr. Chopra; he quotes heavily from the Vedas and other sources.

This is not to say that everyone in Amma's or other charitable

organizations lives in that flow. I just wanted to share the

experience, though I think I might have posted this before.

Nora's post also brings to mind Jesus overturning the tables in the

temple, angry that greed was trading on his father's name. I don't

know what was being sold there and then, for what purpose; I'm not

sure that was ever specified.
